Not much is known about the latest installment in the Halo series

As anticipation continues to build as we get close to E3 2006, which starts nine days from now, a Halo 3 video will be shown during a news briefing on Tuesday, May 9, according to IGN.  The video that will be shown is around two minutes long, but it is unknown what kind of content is in the video.  Unfortunately for Halo fans, it will most likely be at least a year before the game is released.  Halo 3 appears to already be the most anticipated game for the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console.  IGN reports:

Diehard Halo fans shouldn't be too surprised. Bungie is notorious for taking its time, and the game is not likely to come out until 2007. Microsoft's most valuable franchise has been out of the limelight since last year's Map Pack, a set of additional multiplayer maps for 2004's Halo 2.

It was reported late last year that the third installment of the Halo series would have a different name, but that has not been confirmed yet.

Sure. I have played those "better" fps games, and I will say that Bungie is at least giving us a game without bugs. If only people like EA would do the same... My theory is that Halo 3 will come out near the release of the Halo movie, which is under contract to be out in 2007, so I would say December. They will need all the time they can get. This would make a lot of sense. And for the reccord, I LOVE Halo 1 and 2, they are great

I am in it for its storyline. most FPS don't have a decent storyline and Halo has a good one :) . Anyways i have been so wanting to know what happened next ;( ... damn that halo 2 non ending.

I think what he meant, or what he should have meant to say, was that Halo is old and has been done on the PC for almost 10 years in some form or fashion. All Halo is is a FPS on a console with MP and vehicles. Nothing is remotely new or origianl about it. It's just that console kiddies finally had a FPS like a PC FPS. Remember, Halo was coming originally to PC and quite frankly, looked like a easy to play version of Tribes, which is by far one of the best MP FPS games ever.

agreed. i'm not a halo hater but it is really annoying being told by a xbox halo fan how great that game is on pc maybe one of the greatest.
no one would even remember this game today if it came out on pc only.

i also think halo would be much less popular if metroid prime had multiplayer and online multiplayer in its latest sequel

Metroid Prime, now that's what I call a good console FPS! Not trying to imitate all the PC counterparts.
Actually I'd advice you all to play that game, one of the best games ever created IMO.

I'm kinda pissed at myself for selling that Gamecube, can't wait till Wii gets released (I'm quite sure you can play Gamecube games on it)...

Halo 3 and Playstation 3

I read somewhere that Halo 3 will be released on PS3 launch date. That would be funny if its true.

I also heard that. It will be delayed no doubt, like Halo 2 was.

E3

While the article is interesting, and I agree with the above posters on all points, with all due respect it's gotta be said E3 is not "several weeks" away, and an intro like that just makes the writer look uninformed.

It starts the 10th, while the official conferences that usually reveal the most interesting info beginning on the 9th, and Sony's conference (that will most likely reveal PS3 info) will actually be on the 8th.

In reality, E3 madness is less than one week away. W00T.

They actually doubled their staff when they begun Halo 3, so they can make the game way faster than before, and if you actually are bitching about waiting, maybe you should check to see why they delayed it, unless you want to whine about bugs that are present that could have been fixed if they had time.

Funny...

Microsoft said that Halo3 would be released the same day that PS3 was going to be, and they said that over 6 months ago (maybe even a year). Since at that time PS3 was suppose to be launched June/July (I think) I would figure they would be done in time for a Chrismas launch.

Personaly all of those types of FPS feel the same to me. That is why I was so bumbed when PDZ turned out to be more like Halo then the original.

There has always been fan speculation that MS might do this, but is there actually a quote confirming that they will release Halo 3 on the day the PS3 comes out?

At one point, I know that when MS was asked about it, they flat out denied the rumor and claimed that Bungie was working independent of ANY timetable. "It's done when it's done."

So things could have changed, but I personally haven't seen any proof of it. Do you have proof?

Hurray for another crappy port?

Yeah Perfect Dark Zero was a HUGE disappointment. Rare hasn't released anything good since Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark so to me they're dead.

Your all very uninformed

1. Bill Gates announced that Halo3 would launch on the same day as PS3, he has since had his people retract the statement saying Halo3 will release when it is good and ready and when Bungie are ready.

This has been known since he said it at the last E3, and around christmas time it was corrected by spokespersons.

2. They aren't going to give you a pre-rendered video, it will be the engine running, they've been having a pop at Sony every chance over their pre-rendered concepts of what their games will be like and what 50% of us think are just attempts to keep intrest. (Remeber some PS2 things - emotion engine.

3. I'm not a fanboy - despite my post looking like it, i like XBOX because they don't cram HDDVD down your thoat like Sony.

*Sony cram Blu-Ray down the throat though... That edit button would've been helpful.

I think it's wonderful that they're pushing new technologies (although I also believe optical media will be gone in less than ten years except for backups).

I really should have said "wii" instead of "w00t"...

Damn, my first missed opportunity to shun nintendo's name, while mentioning the ps3, in an xbox article.

Videos... blah
By CKDragon on 5/1/2006 2:22:20 AM , Rating: 2
I'm sure that no one can say with 100% certainty whether or not this video is going to be pre-rendered or actually done by the game engine, but I'm betting on the good-for-nothing former which does nothing but get the noobs worked up in a tizzy.

There have been so many instances of stupid pre-rendered videos like Madden for the X360 and Killzone that I'd much rather the developer show nothing than see them try to fool the uneducated consumer.

Screw Halo

Screw Halo. That game was overrated. Where the heck is Marathon? Please Bungie, make a new Marathon game.
