T-Mobile said to be launching device by late February/early March

When the Optimus 2X was announced by LG last week, the company made no indication of when -- or even whether -- the first dual-core smartphone would be coming to the U.S. (We made our own predictions that it would, and soon, considering the success of the Optimus One stateside.)

Now, RCR Wireless says they have it "on good authority" that T-Mobile will be carrying the Tegra 2-equipped Android phone when it launches in the U.S. in late February or early March.

A source close to NVIDIA (makers of the Tegra 2) and LG told RCR that the device was "pretty slick."

What you should expect at CES is for the superphone category to really reach full boil,” Mike Rayfield, general manager of NVIDIA's mobile business said in a blog post. "True superphones begin the process of merging an agile handheld with a PC and a gaming device. Full hardware-accelerated Flash is a given. So are console-quality gaming and 1080P video. You’ll be able to multitask with a vengeance – for example, streaming Pandora while playing sophisticated games against opponents wielding PCs or while conducting a video conference.”

No word yet on pricing, but we can expect to know more after CES in January.

I love me some competition.

People like to bash Apple (and sometimes it is deserved) but windows mobile phones existed for years and generally speaking sucked. Horrible UI, giant bulky, no aesthetics. Blackberries worked but they were hardly fun.

This phone looks awesome. It is nice to see a highly competitive environment in the phone space. Now if the carriers can just keep up when it comes to high speed data networks.

People don't bash Apple's ideas, just the implementation. No one likes being gouged, locked in and talked down to.

Apparently millions of people like exactly that! :)

Let's be honest here.

Many posters to this site bash Apple just because they can and for no other reason.

A perfect example is Mini Display Port. Apple was the first to implement it. Apple got soundly bashed for the connector not being the full size DP implementation and for not being HDMI and for being "Apple specific" even though Apple released the spec back to the standards committee. Now when many, many of the new higher end cards that *cannot* be used in a Mac (no drivers by the vendors) ship with a Mini Display Port there is no mention anywhere that Apple was the first to do it.

Now watch how fast this post gets a -1 rating.

Apple got bashed because at the time Apple was the only company that made mini display port adapters and as usual those cheaply made adapters that Apple sold where relatively expensive. So yes the bashing was warranted. Had Apple sold those adapters at a lower price I doubt people would have cared as much.

The only reason I dislike the mini Display Port is its lack of audio. When I plug my laptop into my TV, I have to use the laptop speakers or run a second cable.

Well I still think that mini Display port sucks. Full size display port wasn't that big. By switching to a "mini" connector, Apple delayed the popularity of display port and we could say that HDMI/DVI (both are compatible) won.

Plus there are no mini display port displays. So you ALWAYS need an adapter. Kind of sucks. At least on my old laptop I can plug VGA monitors without an adapter.
