Augmented reality directly from Safari Mobile

A somewhat hidden feature of Apple's Safari Mobile browser has been unearthed thanks to the popular app, 360 Panorama, by Occipital. TheNextWeb is reporting that an iPhone or iPod Touch device running iOS 4.2 can now view the panorama -- similar to StreetView in Compass mode on Google Maps -- directly in the Safari browser.

According to TNW, this has never been accomplished before on a mobile browser.

Once an image is captured with Panorama 360, the picture can be uploaded to Twitpic or Yfrog and then viewed through Safari Mobile. As long as gyro is set to "on", you can move the device in any direction to experience a full panoramic view -- almost like an iPhone-sized window into that location. The location can also be viewed on the Maps app.

If you're running Safari 4.2 and your device is equipped with a gyroscope, take a look at this link for yourself to see what it can do.
