The "Loch Ness Monster of consumer electronic devices" rears its head

Two new videos of the unannounced Sony Ericsson Playstation Phone, codenamed Zeus, have surfaced on YouTube.

A 15-second clip shows the Android 2.3-based device with a slide-out controller and touch-screen. A PlayStation app is selected, signifying a portal to a PlayStation-branded gaming experience. Tabs at the top of the app read "Recently Played" and "Recently Added".

In the longer clip, the device clearly shows that it is called "Zeus" and that it is running Android version "Gingerbread". The hardware bears the Sony Ericsson logo.

While the video clips look legit, The Wall Street Journal has called their authenticity into question, likening the PlayStation phone to "the Loch Ness Monster of consumer electronic devices."

WSJ
does, however, believe that a Sony Ericsson smartphone with a slide-out videogame controller is, in fact, in development. "The phone is expected to run a version of Google Inc.’s Android operating system and the games will be downloaded through the device using an application on the phone," WSJ reports.

Furthermore, WSJ speculates of a possible unveiling at the Mobile World Congress in February -- an event that Sony Ericsson plans to make a lot of "noise" at.

The purpose of sony halting the use of linux in PS3 is because the security concern of piracy. Not that they will completely immune to it, but at least, with propietary media (bluray) and closed system, sony managed to closed piracy quite long enough. Although for now you can find ps3 pirated titles in the market.
