The "Loch Ness Monster of consumer electronic devices" rears its head
Two new videos of the unannounced
Sony Ericsson Playstation Phone
, codenamed Zeus, have surfaced
A 15-second clip shows the Android 2.3-based device with a slide-out controller and touch-screen. A PlayStation app is selected, signifying a portal to a PlayStation-branded gaming experience. Tabs at the top of the app read "Recently Played" and "Recently Added".
In the longer clip, the device clearly shows that it is called "Zeus" and that it is running Android version "Gingerbread". The hardware bears the Sony Ericsson logo.
While the video clips look legit,
The Wall Street Journal
called their authenticity into question
, likening the PlayStation phone to "the Loch Ness Monster of consumer electronic devices."
does, however, believe that a Sony Ericsson smartphone with a slide-out videogame controller is, in fact, in development. "The phone is expected to run a version of Google Inc.’s Android operating system and the games will be downloaded through the device using an application on the phone,"
speculates of a possible unveiling at the Mobile World Congress in February -- an event that Sony Ericsson plans to make a lot of "noise" at.

had high hopes

when this first was rumored, I was hoping that it meant I could actually play PSP and PS1 games on an android phone. I still have hopes, but fading.
'playstation branded' keeps getting thrown around and that doesnt sound as cool as an actual PSP phone. sigh.

You already can play PS1 games on the Android phones; there is a PS1 emulator that people seem to like in the Market. I already have SNES, NES, & Atari on my EVO ('OID versions from yongzh). If yongzh comes out with a Playstation one I will likely get that also.
I would assume a PSP phone would have the capability to play PSP games built in. Everything else outside of the last few consoles are covered in Emulators. Combining all of these options with the D-Pad/Action buttons would be great!
