Let the 4G ad wars begin!
On the heels of T-Mobile's mocking ad of AT&T, which brags about "America's largest 4G network," Verizon has also begun broadcasting commercials that boast 4G.
According to BoyGeniusReport, Verizon aired a dramatic 30-second spot during Sunday Night Football last night in which a man gets a package that contains a lightning bolt. A voice-over proclaims, "lightning fast, lightning strong -- Verizon 4G LTE. Rule the air on the most advanced 4G network in the world." The words "Coming December 2010" then appear under the Verizon logo.
This is, undoubtedly, just the first of a forthcoming media blitz from Verizon that will boast about its 4G network. Verizon began testing its LTE network in five cities back in June. The nation's largest wireless carrier then announced an ambitious roll-out plan that would bring LTE to 30 "NFL" cities by year's end (perhaps explaining the placement of the new spot). Slowly, news of an LTE-branded LG device and an LTE equivalent of the EVO 4G began making the rounds. This time, nobody can question the "4G" tag, because LTE is widely accepted as a true fourth-generation wireless technology.
Meanwhile, the DROID 2 Global has quietly replaced the DROID 2 on Verizon's website. It's running $199 after $100 mail-in-rebate (with a qualifying two-year contract).
