Google Chrome free Gogo WiFi offer  (Source: Google)
Free Wi-Fi is sponsored by Google Chrome

Google has its sights set on Microsoft on many fronts. The two companies are fighting in the search market with Google the very decisive leader. In the productivity software market, things are reversed with Microsoft leading with Office and Google far behind with cloud-based offerings.

The two tech firms also battle in the web browser market with Microsoft leading with Internet Explorer and Google far behind with Chrome. Google has announced that for the holiday season it is teaming up with AirTran Airways, Delta, and Virgin America to offer passengers on the flights free Gogo inflight Wi-Fi no matter what browser they user. The free Wi-Fi will be offered on every domestic flight on the participating airlines starting on November 20 and ending on January 2, 2011.

The free GoGo Wi-Fi service will be sponsored by Google's Chrome browser.

The three participating airlines have equipped their entire domestic fleets with Gogo service so all flights will offer passengers free email, chat, and web surfing while in the air. Google expects to provide free connectivity to 700 panes and about 15 million passengers during the holiday season. Last holiday season Google offered free Wi-Fi in about 50 airports around the country and this year the offer covers travelers in the sky.

“We are constantly working to help provide a better web experience to users around the world,” said Sundar Pichai, Vice President of Product Management at Google. “Whether it be building a better browser with Chrome or bringing free Wi-Fi to air travelers this holiday season, we are constantly innovating to ensure users’ access to the web is fast, simple and seamless.”
