Sprint's Galaxy Tab to be priced at $399 with a two-year contract

Last week, Verizon announced that it would bring its variant of the 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab to market at a price of $599 without a contract. Today, Sprint has announced the official pricing of its own Galaxy Tab offering.

Sprint's variant will cost $399 with a two-year contract. In addition, those that pre-order the tablet will receive a $50 Sprint gift card.

Sprint Galaxy Tab customers will have two data plans to choose from with their two-year contract: 2GB with unlimited messaging for $29.99/month or 5GB with unlimited messaging for $59.99/month.

“Samsung Galaxy Tab is another Android innovation for Sprint, adding a new category of wireless devices to the Sprint portfolio,” said Sprint's VP of Product Development, Fared Adib. “Samsung Galaxy Tab is a powerful entertainment device and business tool that offers our customers high-end features, including a blazing-fast processor, beautiful touchscreen for watching videos and Web browsing, two cameras, video chat capabilities and access to the Sprint 3G network with affordable rate plans that let customers take advantage of the advanced data capabilities their device offers.”

The Sprint Galaxy Tab will be made available on November 14.

You do realize that with Sprint you will end up playing $1120 after 2 years? And during the next spring you will watch newer and cheaper devices appearing while counting months until the end of contract.

For some people Wi-Fi is good enough, some tether so another data plan is just waste of money.

With that pricing Galaxy Tab will never become popular. I expect them to lower the prices significantly in a few months. Remember, even the first iPhone had to have a price cut. Archos 70 and 101 for $300 without contract should be the price target for Android tablets.

Tab's hardware can't beat iPad given that iPad has IPS LCD that alone costs $80-$95 to produce. Tab has cheap TN display costing $20-25. Early reviews complain about Tab's viewing angles.

I don't understand people's logic. They keep talking about the "hidden" cost of the Tab, but that doesn't make sense. If you're comparing this tab to the equivalent iPad then you have to include the price for 3g on that as well. Which is $25 a month for 2GB of data from ATT IIRC. No reason to buy the 3g version and not use the 3g. Obviously if you don't need 3g then the iPad is a better choice since you can buy it without 3g.

True, if you want to upgrade before your 2 year contact is up then you're worse off. I don't see the point in upgrading so often, but that very well is likely just me.

Logic is simple. Look at B&N Nook Color for $249. It can play video, browse web, run some apps and it's got IPS display.

That's how much 7" Android tablet should cost.

Ok, thanks for talking about a device that you probably just read about right before you posted and just had it's article come out on Dailytech after I posted my comment. I can't see into the future.

Finally someone that understands the difference in the quality of LCD types.

I REAAAALLLLY want an android tablet, but hate using Itunes, but so far nothing has come out that matches the Ipad in specs. Either it's smaller, or has a lousy TN screen, or is bulky and heavy, or runs some old version of Android which doesn't have flash.

Why can't somebody just make a ~10 inch IPS display with Android 2.2 with decent battery life... is it really that hard???
