Videotron Ultimate Speed 120  (Source: Videotron)

120Mbps... me want... Omnomnom  (Source: Guardian.co.uk)
120Mbps down, 20Mbps up

Most of the broadband connections in the U.S. today are hardly capable of being called broadband and are much slower on average than what people in other countries have access to. The FCC wants 100Mbps connections in the next decade all around the country and broadband providers are claiming they can't hit that mark.

Canadians can already get speeds that are faster than the FCC's vision for America, assuming they can get cable broadband from provider Videotron. Videotron has rolled out an insanely fast web plan for customers that can hit 120 Mbps on download and as fast as 20Mbps on uploads. The service uses DOCSIS 3.0 and manages to squeak by Suddenlink (available in
Texas, West Virginia, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Oklahoma ) which advertises 107Mbps downloads.

Videotron calls the plan the Ultimate Speed 120 package and it will be available to all of the customers in Quebec City by year's end. "Ultimate Speed Internet 120 pushes back the frontier for intensive Internet users," said Robert Depatie, president and CEO of Videotron. "Today, we are launching the high-speed Internet service of the future. With the pace at which users' needs are changing, we are not so far from the day when 120 Mbps will be a must-have convenience."

After Quebec City is hooked up, Videotron will roll the service out to other areas where it operates. The plan is not cheap though at more than a Canadian dollar per Mbps of speed with a price of $149.95 CAD per month reports
CED Magazine.

Videotron launched its DOCSIS 3.0 network two years ago with 50Mbps and 30Mbps tiers.

... and after paying $150 you are still capped at 170GB down, 30GB up. Achievable within a couple hours. Swing and a miss grève trois!

While I totaly agree with you, every provider I know does the same.

If you really need upcapped, try their business plan. I was on it for 2 years, it's a little more expensive, but it's true unlimited.

Every provider you know in Canada you mean.

People need to look a little harder, there are unlimited plans available virtually everywhere in Canada, you just need to dig a tiny bit past the big-boys.

I've been with TekSavvy for about 3 years now and have been very happy. I'm on a 200GB/month, 6Mbps/800Kbps plan. Unlimited would cost me an extra $8/month. Alternatively they offer unlimited 10Mbps/1Mbps over cable in some areas for a bit more.

Others are cheaper still for similar speeds, however I've stuck with TekSavvy because their service is good; both customer service and on the technical side of things.

The whole company is a rip-off.

Their 15mbs plan costs $55/mo and is capped at 60GB download.

FYI - the actual cost to the provider of pulling 60GB off of the internet is between $1.20 and $1.80, but that doesn't include costs of constructing, operating, or marketing their network.

For sure, it does... but there is no choice. Oh am sorry you have Bell Canada, with there """"Internet access"""". More like, you are better off with a 56k modem.
1- Terrible DNS server
2- Throttle your connection like if you have a phone line connection
3- Throttle any large downloads you perform, including stuff as simple as a Windows service pack.
4- What customer service? They don't even have one
5- changes their price when they want

That is all you have in Quebec. Pick!

Cable companies have caps for two reasons.

First Reason = Heavy Down loaders.

Second or Real Reason = GoogleTV, NetFlix, Hulu, Boxee, Apple TV, Microsoft TV, etc are the beginning of the end of the monopoly of cable services and now are shifting to monopolizing internet connectivity.

Totally. It doesn't seem "normal" that an internet connection caps out at just under 3 hours and 9 minutes of full speed downloading. What's the speed for if you can't use it for more than a few hours a month? It seems like a retarded offer to me.

Is that really the cap amount? If so, this high speed is ridiculous. Even Comcast only caps at 250GB for the 15Mbps down/3Mbps up plan.

No caps here with true 15Mbps down/up (no turboboost for me). :)

Was uploading at 500 KB/s the other night (thats what I limited utorrent to). And for those wondering I was sharing the FFXIV patch, nothing illegal. Square Enix uses a bittorrent like patch client and its WAY faster to just open the patch torrent file in a bittorrent client and download it on your own.

Fastest downloads so far have been at 1.8MB/s I like it. :)

Are you sure? I didn't know I had one until I logged into comcast.net and saw a bandwidth meter. Good news is that even with heavy Netflix usage I'm averaging about 45GB/month, so I have a lot of headroom.

I don't have Comcast. And I specifically asked about this before I signed up. Also, it really isn't an issue since I don't download a ton. Most of my usage is web usage and video games.

Oh, I misread your turbo boost comment. Comcast got rid of that a couple of weeks ago. It's straight 15 down/3 up now, instead of 6/12 down and 1.5/3 up with turboboost.

Never use machine translation to look smart. Grève means a labour strike. So you basically said labour strike three. What you want to say is troisième prise.
