AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon will all get version of the Galaxy Tab

Following in the footsteps of the Galaxy S which has made its way to Sprint (Epic 4G), Verizon (Fascinate), T-Mobile (Vibrant), and AT&T (Captivate), Samsung announced today that its 7" Galaxy Tab will also find a home on all four of the major U.S. wireless carriers.

Samsung's all or nothing approach with the Galaxy S smartphone chassis has paid off greatly as the company announced sales of one million phones within the first 45 days of ability. This figure didn't even take into consideration the Verizon Fascinate which hadn't yet been launched at the time of that announcement.

Samsung's decision to also deliver the Galaxy Tab to all four major carriers looks to be another smart move, and one that Apple has been reticent to do with its wildly popular iPad (the iPad 3G is currently only available on AT&T's wireless network).

“The addition of Galaxy Tab to the Galaxy product portfolio is a powerful proof point of Samsung’s commitment to bring new and innovative mobile experiences to U.S. consumers,” remarked Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile. “The 7-inch display and thin, lightweight design, combined with premium content and productivity tools makes the Galaxy Tab a true mobile tablet that is as comfortable to use standing on a crowded train as it is relaxing on the couch at home. The Galaxy Tab is perfect for watching a movie, reading an e-book or catching up with your favorite TV shows or chatting with an old friend. Plus, the Tab’s design makes it completely pocketable in your pants or jacket.”

For those that haven't been keeping up with the latest Galaxy Tab news, the 7" tablet measures 7.5" x 4.7" x .5" and weighs a little over 13 ounces. The Android 2.2 tablet features a 1024x600 display, 1GHz Hummingbird ARM processor, 512MB RAM, 3MP rear camera/1.3MP front-facing camera, Bluetooth 3.0, and 802.11n.

Unfortunately, the Sprint version of the Galaxy Tab won't have 4G as reported earlier this month. For those that don't want the added cost of a 3G modem weighing them down month, a Wi-Fi only version will also be made available.

At this time, pricing and availability are unknown for the Galaxy Tab.

How are they crippling it?

And of course it will sell well. No one thinks twice about signing a contract. Look at the netbooks that Verizon is selling. People will gladly pick up a $200 Galaxy Tab and not think twice about the actual cost of the device with a new two-year contract.

They're crippling it by removing the ability to use it as a phone in the U.S. Without that ability, they won't sell anywhere near as much.

Also, it won't have a WiMax radio, so no 4G, only 3G. (for Sprint)

Don't think so. All the news, reviews, and articles, as well as Samsung state that the Galaxy Tab will be voice/data capable plus the fact that Samsung is making deals with all the carriers.

Yes, that means you will be able to make phone calls with the Galaxy Tab as well as use it like a tablet; something that Apple SHOULD have done with the iPad to begin with...

What an huge load of steaming bull$hit...using the Galaxy Tab as a phone was the ONLY reason I was even remotely considering the purchase...without the phone it's gonna be a hug load of FAIL!!!!

Thanks for nothing Samsung and the American phone carriers...fvck the Galaxy Tab!

Yeah. Not being able to call people on it was the No. 1 reason why the iPad was a commercial failiu... oh wait.
