Western military officials express concerned over Iran's growing interest in UAVs

Iran plans to test unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and short-range missiles as the country looks for new resources to try and pressure the western world.  The new UAV venture was recently introduced during a press conference in Iran, with the country also announcing its interested in unmanned helicopters.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi confirmed the use of long-range UAVs in Iran's growing fleet of aircraft.  The country confirmed in early spring that it wanted to develop UAVs, with early development starting in February.

"The long-range UAV named 'Karrar' will be unveiled on this day," Vahidi noted during a press conference earlier in the week.

The country also has a short-range UAV in development that will fly 400 to 500 meters in altitude and should be designed as a "stealth aircraft."

The United States military has opened up UAV technology to allies, but what they have access to is supposed to be relatively restricted.  Meanwhile, Iran's initial announcement of UAV development drew immediate criticism from some western military leaders weary of Iranian unmanned technological developments.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates noted Iran could create "difficulties" in Iraq and Afghanistan for the U.S. and coalition forces.  Even though Iran will be unable to compete head-to-head with U.S.-made UAVs, there is concern Iran could loan UAV use to organized terror groups.

Since steadily building its military effectiveness since the early 1990s, Iran has attempted to reassure the world that its development of tanks, missiles, fighter jets and armored military transports are for defensive purposes only.

who should switzerland defend against?
we got an army though!

it's normal to have an army for defensive purpose.

The US on the other hand have an army for aggressive purposes. But no, no one says nothing.

I wouldn't call a bunch of warma bruders on bicycles an Army. America projects power via their military that is not the same as naked aggression. YOur way of life in Switzerland and Western civilization would most likely not exist as it does today if it wasn't for the American Military...your welcome.

Don't expect any thanks unless you did the work yourself. My grandpa would probably bite off your balls and throw you like a grenade if he saw you taking credit for a war you didn't participate in.

Not everyone that posts here is a self hating American peacenik some of us actually served in the US Military and are proud of our service and that of their fathers service in the Korean and Vietnam War and his fathers service in WWI all the way back to the revolutionary war. Your welcome...

My welcome? What does that even mean? Oh, you mean "you're", I guess you can thank my family for protecting your right to butcher our native language, because my family has the same service record.

You didn't fight in WW2, don't pretend you did. Nobody will thank you for it, because you didn't do a goddamn thing.

Learn to read. never once did i take credit for serving in WWII which should be obvious to even the average person with downs syndrome; how many 80-90 year old do you see posting to tech websites? Just FYI Merchant Marines aren't a branch of the US Military.

You can't say "You're welcome" for things you had no part in. It was obvious you weren't in WW2, which was why I was basically calling your a classless fool.

As an ex member of the US Military i can tell a Swiss person he is welcome for my service in the greastest military in the world for the simple fact that becasue if it wasn't for people like me and those who have previously served there is a good chance that Switerzerland wouldn't be the country it is today. So imagine that! here we have come full circle back to my original blatantly obvious point before you opened your mouth to prove you are indeed what you try to label me as...a fool.

I assume you have a deep seated love for France then, seeing as how they basically made you a country and bought your independence? Entering WW2 after being attacked doesnt really give you the right to pretend to have saved us, sorry.

You didn't provide a service to the Europeans, the people before you did. Have respect for them and don't take credit for their actions.

It's like when your family buys a gift for someone else, yet you didn't contribute to buying or making the gift, yet you think you deserve the credit anyway because it's from the family.

P.S. Thank you for serving our country recently. I respect that, just don't expect any of the kudos for WW2 to fall in your lap. I call it tact.

If you haven't been there you can't understand the esprit de corps the ARMY is a family i don't take credit for what my father did or my brothers in WWII i take pride in being part of the organization that did.
