Hulu Plus app for the iPhone
IPO could grab $2 billion for Hulu

Streaming TV shows and movies have become very popular over the past few years with offerings like Hulu and Netflix growing by leaps and bounds. Hulu has been streaming TV shows from some of the major networks in the U.S. and is currently in talks with CBS to bring the final major network to its offerings.

Hulu is set to go public according to the
New York Times, with an IPO that could reportedly net Hulu as much as $2 billion. The IPO could happen as early as this fall according to sources closes to the company. Major shareholders in Hulu include NBC Universal, News Corp, and Walt Disney Co.

Hulu generated about $100 million in revenue last year and is on track to hit that number again for 2010. Hulu's earnings will grow significantly when its subscription services fully launches. The subscription offering is perhaps where the CBS content will be offered and is set at $9.99 monthly. The free offerings that Hulu fans have been using since the service debuted will continue to be offered.

The benefits to the paid service, called Hulu Plus, include support for gaming consoles (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) and greater access to archived content. The Hulu Plus service also adds streaming to mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad.

There is no official statement from Hulu at this time on the IPO.
