Microsoft introduces the followup to the Xbox 360 Arcade

Microsoft introduced its slimmer, quieter Xbox 360 design last month. The console, which is priced at $299 for the 250GB version, quickly shot to the top of the sales charts for the month of June surpassing both the Wii and PS3.

Today, Microsoft is looking to bolster its efforts in the console market even further with the introduction of a new entry level Xbox 360 with 4GB of flash memory instead of the 250GB HDD. The Xbox 360 4GB also forgoes the shiny black plastic exterior of its older brother for a matte black finish, however, gamers will be happy to hear that 802.11n wireless support is still included.

In other Xbox 360 news, Microsoft also today announced that the Kinect motion control accessory will be priced at $149. A bundle which includes both the Xbox 360 4GB and the Kinect will be available for $299.

"Kinect for Xbox 360 offers tremendous entertainment value for the whole family," said Dennis Durkin, Xbox 360 COO. "With full body, voice and the ability to play games with your friends right out of the box, Kinect is the most unique, complete and affordable way for everyone to enjoy controller-free fun and entertainment."
