Seagate
today announced a new external HDD that has 3TB of storage space.
This is the first 3TB external HDD in the world according to
Seagate. The new drive is called the Seagate
3TB FreeAgent GoFlex and connects via USB 3.0, USB 2.0, or
FireWire 800 ports. The external HDD works with both Mac and Windows
PCs – it ships with a NTFS driver for Mac systems.
"Consumer
capacity demands are quickly out-pacing the needs of business as
people continue to collect high-definition videos, photos and music,"
said Dave Mosley, Seagate executive vice president of Sales,
Marketing and Product Line Management. "Seagate has a tradition
of designing products that break into new storage frontiers to meet
customer requirements and the 3TB GoFlex(TM) Desk external drive is
no exception--delivering the highest-capacity storage solution
available today."
That NTFS Mac driver allows the
external HDD to be accessed by both Mac and Windows PCs without
needing to reformat the drive. The 3TB GoFlex is designed to be able
to sit vertically or horizontally on the desktop. The drive is
available now for $249.99 with a USB 2.0 adapter directly from
Seagate and via select retailers. Additional GoFlex adapters are
needed for use with FireWire or USB 3.0 connections.
