Vibrant is the latest addition to T-Mobile's growing Android lineup

Though it wasn't much of a secret -- thanks to T-Mobile's own social media marketing campaign -- the nation's fourth-largest mobile provider announced July 21 as the official launch day of the Samsung Vibrant, one of the first in the Galaxy S lineup to hit the U.S.

The Vibrant is one of the slimmest and lightest Android-powered smartphones on the market weighing in at 4.16 ounces and measuring 0.39” thick.

Highlights of the device include a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, 4.0" Super AMOLED touch screen, 5MP camera, 720p video capture, and Android 2.1 -- all features also present on another Galaxy S phone recently announced by AT&T.

What differentiates the Vibrant, though, in addition to HSPA+ capability, is a list of pre-installed apps and media -- a strategy T-Mobile has been employing in its high-end devices.

By combining best-selling, award-winning content and amazing hardware that brings that content to life, T-Mobile continues to deliver on its commitment to bring innovative mobile entertainment experiences to consumers’ fingertips,” Paul Cole, a T-Mobile spokesperson said in a press release.

Along with the Amazon Kindle for Android App, MobiTV, Slacker Radio, and Gogo Inflight Internet, the Vibrant also comes with the highest grossing film of all time, Avatar, pre-loaded on the included 2GB microSD card. As for gaming, the device comes with a full version of The Sims 3 Collector's Edition.

The device will run $199.99 with a qualifying two-year contract.

In other mobile news, Sprint expanded its 4G footprint to three more U.S. cities. Its WiMAX service is now available in Salt Lake City, St. Louis, and Richmond, Viginia, the company announced in a press release.

The Galaxy S Pro, whose specs were leaked last week, will be compatible with Sprint's 4G network.

It comes with Swype, which is awesome and truly bridges the gap between virtual and physical keyboard performance.
