Verizon RAZR V3c's now support file transfers through Motorola Phone Tools and via Bluetooth

Verizon is finally lifting the chains from its phones -- well at least the RAZR V3c -- when it comes to file transfers. Verizon Wireless customers previously had to go through Verizon's network to transfer files, but a new software update will change all of that.

Verizon Motorola RAZR users can now walk into a Verizon store and have their handset's firmware upgraded to a new version which support file transfers to and from your PC over USB with Motorola Phone Tools. Not only that, OBEX support has also been added which means that files can be transferred over Bluetooth to another Bluetooth-capable device.  A recent blog reports:

Long time owners of the RAZR will find this news quite odd. Back when the phone was originally released, OBEX was left on by mistake. Verizon quickly corrected that error by not only turning off OBEX, but completely stripping the OBEX code from the firmware. Now that OBEX has been enabled again shows that either Verizon has no clue what they’re doing or they’re finally listening to customer’s requests.

The same blog also reports that these new features will soon be coming to Motorola's other V Cast handsets as well.

Every single time I have walked into a verizon store asking for software/firmware updates they look at me like I'm from mars.

I'm going to print this article, bring it in, and demand that they update my freaking phone! Hopefully they will also allow the V3c to do things like, oh, I dunno, RING AND VIBE AT THE SAME TIME!?!?!? OMG!?!? when I asked for updates concerning that he said "software doesn't determine phone features... when my friends V3c has it, through cellcom or something.

This is irritating. At least they are doing it though…

I was oblivious

I had no idea that Verizon crippled their phones like that in the first place! I have a RAZR from Cingular, and one of the first things I did when I got it was set up a BlueTooth link with my PowerBook and transfer a couple of MP3's to it for ringtones. I really have a hard time believing that a provider like Verizon would cripple their phones like that. What bastards!

is it?

I can say that because I have a RAZR and I have Verizon. I know for a fact Motorola doesn't like dealing with Verizon, because they make retarded requests. Verizon orignally wanted an antenna on the RAZR. It wouldn't do anything, but it would be there for show. Then they have unique software requirements for their phones, I believe this is mainly due to the VCAST stuff. I haven't really heard anything good about Verizon in a long time.
