Judge has ties to oil industry and owns stock in major companies involved in the spill

The disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is still on going with the leaking well pouring thousands and thousands of barrels of crude oil into the waters daily. So far, BP has been unable to stop the flow of crude from leaking into the waters.

The Obama administration had placed a six-month ban on deep-water drilling in the gulf until an investigation could be conducted to determine what caused the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon platform that triggered the massive Gulf oil spill.

A federal judge lifted the ban placed on deep-water drilling in the Gulf yesterday. The judge who lifted with ban is U.S. District Court Judge Martin Feldman. Feldman issued a 22-page order that would allow oil companies to resume to drilling in the Gulf. However, the White House says that it will file an immediate appeal and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says that it will issue a new order imposing a moratorium on drilling that gives more detail on why the 6-month ban is needed.

Feldman said in his order that there was not enough justification in the drilling ban to justify the action taken by Obama and the White House. Feldman wrote, "A blanket moratorium, with no parameters seems to assume that because one rig failed and although no one yet fully knows why, all companies and rigs drilling new wells over 500 feet also universally present an imminent danger."

Feldman also wrote, "If some drilling-equipment parts are flawed, is it rational to say all are? Are all airplanes a danger because one was? All oil tankers like Exxon Valdez? All trains? All mines? That sort of thinking seems heavy-handed, and rather overbearing."

The
Associated Press has noted that Feldman has ties to the oil industry and as recently as 2008, he owned stock in several oil companies. AP reports that Feldman listed in 2008 that he owned less than $15,000 in stock in Transocean Ltd. Transocean is the company that owns the Deepwater Horizon platform.

While some suggest that Feldman is biased because of his ties to the oil industry, at least one expert sees no signs of bias in the ruling. Tim Howards, a law professor at Northeastern University said, "There's been some concern that he is biased toward the industry, but I don't see it in this opinion. They [the White House] overreacted and just shut an industry down, rather than focusing on where the problems are."

However, Josh Reichert, managing director of Pew Environment Group said, "If Judge Feldman has any investments in oil and gas operators in the Gulf, it represents a flagrant conflict of interest."

Even though the ruling by Feldman would allow drilling to restart in the gulf, some major oil companies are holding off knowing an appeal is coming soon. Shell and Marathon are waiting to see what happens with the appeal before getting back to drilling.

You want to know what happened? I'll tell you what happened. The Repubs are trying to bring Obama down. They have brought about this disaster thinking it will ruin President Obama.

The Repubs want America to fail. Their own words! Lim'burger cheeze wizard said plainly he hopes Obama fails. THAT is hoping America fails!

The self righteous, bigoted Repubs can't stand that there is a black man in their business, seeing all the records of all the dirty deeds they've done through the centuries and it is tearing them up. They can't stand for there to be a black family in the highest house of the land, the Whitehouse. I hope my President renames the house to Blackhouse! I'm a cracker, by the way. But more than that, I'm a human being. Those POS Repubs aren't even human by any standard.

HEY! R. Lim'burger Cheeze Wizard! I hope you fail and take your Repubs with you back to the slime pit you crawled out of.

This man should close his trap.. If an airliner has a crash due to maintenance issues, do they merely continue business as usual? NO! Its not uncommon for entire fleets being grounded to check the issue on all their planes.. Why? Because the safety is at risk. I'm not against deepsea drilling, I just think that perhaps we should be investigating exactly what happened, and what can be done to stop these issues in the future. As it seems to me that everything they have tried is 40 year old technology, in which the same 3 tier'd techniques were used on the last great oil spill in the gulf. (at depths hundreds of feet closer to the surface too..)

Wow...where to begin...

You really should read a variety of material besides just the hard-left drivel out there.

You are right about one thing--the Repubs want to bring Messiah down. They (and I) believe him to be utterly incompetent and a danger to the country.

Oh, by the way, no one ever said they wanted AMERICA to fail--Rush said he wanted OBAMA to fail. A different desire, don't you think?

I am also stunned at your racism. No one I know or associate with gives a cr*p about Messiah's skin color. And for the record, technically he's not "black." He's 50% white, 43% Arab, 7% black.

See you at the polls in November. Bring a tissue.

It's funny that you mention babies. Do you know that Obama supports late term abortion? That's right, Obama is in favor of people shoving a tube in a babies head and sucking its brain out before medically dilating the cervix and passing the dead baby.

I REALLY want to see how you defend that one.

So now I am a slave master? HAHA

Again I'll say: You are a racist. The sad part is that you don't even know that you are one.

Yep. The Republican party is responsible for this damned oil spill. Curse you Republicans!!

Nice try but no. A lot of people want Obama's radical socialist agenda to fail. If Obama succeeds in every thing that I have seen him try to push so far, then he will effectively destroy what being an "American" means.

This explanatory rant confirms that you are a racist sheep, and dumb as a f****** rock.

You want to know something? Only a racist brings up race/skin color/etc in unrelated conversation.

Fortunately, when Mr. Obama was elected...at the howls and cries of all the horrified Repubs...I finally felt a sense of peace and relief about the future...as long as we put the Repubs down and don't ever let them up again.

I believe he said that if it's not repealed he will leave. Obama set this program up to fully implement AFTER he is already gone so that he can blame someone else for failure.

By the way, since you are new to this, you place the quoted text before the response. Dumbass.

I fear you are wasting your valuable time. He's a twit and a troll to be sure.
Using name such as Franklin, and Jefferson will only remind the child of his favorite Rap song, or sitcom. Or he'll complain how those of us who pay large sums of money in taxes should be taxed more so he and his ilk and brood can stay seated quite firmly on their rotund bottoms.

There are always those at either end of the spectrum that can't be turned from their path. The goal is those in the middle with reason and logic will seek and identify truth and choose wisely.

Granted if amnesty is passed... I'm moving. It may not seem like much to some but my 80k in tax base will come with me. Now if I can just convince the other 40M Americans who pay taxes to come along... now that could be something!

I wonder if the Canadians would be willing to set aside a small subset of land for us? Our own republic, paid for and run by those who work and produce!

hmm... I think I may have to institute a few more laws along with the constitution of old.
1.) If you don't work you don't Vote
2.) If you don't pay taxes you don't Vote (Income/Federal = net zero tax after credits etc)
3.) Flat Tax locked at a specified GDP % value. (Federal expenditures could never exceed income, and may never go over 7% of GDP)
4.) If a person is on any type of Aid or Welfare he/she MUST work. Don't care if you are paraplegic or other you can do SOMETHING
5.) A person running for political office is selected by secret ballet from the community and must be a person with Land, Property, and previous business experience... (Oh I know this will piss off you lefties!)

Who is willing?
