Steve Jobs' "magical" device continues to sell well

Many people weren't sure what to make of the Apple iPad when it was introduced by Steve Jobs in January. The iPad was meant to dive into a market that has largely failed to gain traction due to the use of Windows-based tablets and convertible notebooks that were never built from the ground up for touch-based input.

However, Jobs must be grinning all the way to the bank because his "magical" iPad has indeed found an audience and is continuing to burn up the sales charts. Apple sold 300,000 Wi-Fi-only iPads on launch day, 450,000 by the first week, and 500,000 within two weeks of launch.

Now that the iPad 3G is finally shipping, Apple has seen another uptick in sales for its latest iPhone OS device. Apple is now touting that it has sold one million iPads in just 28 days on the market.

“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Apple also made it known that over 1.5 million eBooks have been downloaded from iBookStore and over 12 million apps have been downloaded by iPad users from the App Store.

Jobs continued, throwing in a but more praise on his "magical" tablet. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

Apple's iPad starts at $499 for a 16GB Wi-Fi model and tops out at $829 for a 64GB model with 3G connectivity.

Right, you're not very bright for comparing a table PC to iPad.

Same battery life? Same use case?

Are you going question whether iPad is going to not sell? Definitely fastest seling and best selling soon. Unlike you are delusional like everyone else in DT and cast doom and gloom for iPad ...

Miss the boat when Apple stock was at $38? :->

I can take a bet with you that its going to outsell any tablet on the market right now.
Are you ready to take on the challenge? or are you going to STFU and keep you attacks on iPad.

Same battery life, and same use case. OK. So I have to find another device that does exactly what the iPad does and last the same amount of time on battery power. With those restriction you cannot even compare the iPad 3G with the normal iPad because the battery life different.
So what devices can I compare it to?

The iPad may outsell any one tablet, but will it out sell them all. If you want the iphone OS then you have to get the iPad, but if you want a windows based tablet there are many choices that have to compete against each other, with hardware being about the only difference. Even then by your own statement they should not be compared together.

It's not the same battery life or the same user case.

They are not in the same market. That's why no one out there can find a competing product with Apple. They leading in that market right now, and it's up to the competitors to deliver something that attack the same market.

Get it?

Yes, that's right ... comparing iPad by combining all tablet same in the entire world. Right ..... are you running out of counters?

Your little mind have mistaken tablet category with iPad's market. In essense, iPad is a tablet with eReader/PDA capabilities. No other device out there (there may be some coming out soon) does that. But in general terms, it's a tablet. But it doesn't mean you can compare a clunky laptop/tablet with iPad .... it's not the same market.

All I'm saying is you guys keep bashing Apple, but all in the meanwhile, its competitors are way behind. Yes, iPad has it's flaws, but why isn't anyone listing the flaws of other products?

It's the same talk about iPod and iPhone. No one acknowledged that it's AppStore concept is AMAZING. So what are the competitors doing? Building AppStores! But with little success. If you are going to throw punches, you also have to taken punches.

Like any other products out there as successful as Apple's doing, of course it's surrounding by hype. It's competitors are welcome to hype up their own products too. Free market baby. Don't make excuses for its competitors.

It's kinda like movie stars. The product has to look good (so you can hype it), but also deliver good performances to be highly regarded. You don't need to be the best actor/actress out there. It's the overall package. That's just reality whether you like it or not ......... unless you'll rather watch a old lady who acts GREAT over an actress who's extremely hot but acts GOOD. Even you cannot deny that ....

Why is everyone basing Apple anyways? They are not building bad products, and always building products with a twist that others do not do. I don't see Microsoft to that ....

Currently, the only tablet that can be mentioned is the Archos 9, which is crippled by its slow hard drive. Of course, people do have the option of changing said drive.

The iPad has sold purely via word of mouth and the buzz created by the media. Be it a good product of not, its been pushed like nothing before it.

The iPad is a good product that people never knew they needed.

P.s. Windows 7 is perfectly fine as a Touch platform. Click Start, Control Panel, (View by large icons), Display, Change to Medium 125% DPI

Done. Much better for touch. No reviewers seem to mention this?

Can't blame Apple for that. Did you ever noticed we lived in a world of consumerism.
