Wi-Fi versions of the iPad will be available this Saturday

For those of you looking for something "magical" in the words of Steve Jobs, Apple will begin selling its much hyped iPad this Saturday in its retail locations starting at 9 AM. Those that pre-ordered the devices early from Apple's website will receive their units by Saturday. Those that waited a while longer to pre-order online will have to wait until April 12 for their iPads to arrive if they don't feel like heading down to one of 221 Apple retail stores or "most Best Buy stores" which will stock the device.

“iPad connects users with their apps and content in a far more intimate and fun way than ever before,” said Jobs. “We can’t wait for users to get their hands and fingers on it this weekend.”

For those that come into Apple stores to purchase an iPad, a "free Personal Setup service" will be made available. Apple Geniuses will help setup your email or download apps to your iPad. Just don't expect the same service from Best Buy without some kind of Geek Squad fee attached.

The only units available this Saturday will be the WiFi-only iPads. IPads which feature 3G connectivity will not be available until later this month. The iPad features a 9.7" screen, 16GB to 64GB of NAND flash storage, a 1GHz Apple A4 ARM processor, Bluetooth 2.1, and 802.11n. Interestingly, those wishing for a camera will have to purchase a $29 iPad Camera Connection Kit.

Wi-Fi-only iPads are priced at $499, $599, and $699 respectively for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models.

It would just be for basic browsing, watching videos etc etc..(not just myself, but my GF whom lets just say is not technically inclined) I'm not going to use an LCD based display to read books.. I value my eyes...

The GF aspect is also another issue, I had to limit her to her own laptop as she somehow defies gravity and physics as I always end up with a virus, regardless of AV software. Its sad really considering I never used AV software before she started using my machines and never had a problem..

Your GF needs to stop going to social networking sites.

My mother in law did that to me. I walked her trhough getting a new laptop. One that would suite her needs for a good cost. I made sure it had a stand alone Windows disk and we took it home, blasted the hard drive, re-installed Windows without all the pre-loaded junk. Her machine was the lightest it was possible (within reason) to make. OS, Drivers, AV, Office, and her school stuff. The NEXT DAY she called me panicking because her AV was firing off warnings. Where was she? Some shaddy social networking site.

Trying to stop my spanish tempered GF from doing anything = futile..

Fighting a freaking Rancor with my bear hands would probably end up better for me!!!

.. its not the social networking sites, its those stupid game demo's I can't get her to stop playing..

While I appreciate your honesty and love your analogy, I must offer some words of advice that may seem harsh.

Any women who refuses to listen and fights back needs to be dropped. Strong will and independent women are great, don't get me wrong, but when they stop listening to all reason, see ya.

Ride the train until the fun stops and then move on, just don't knock her up or worse, get married.

Virus laden game demos? Where the heck is she getting them from?

Your GF sounds like my sister. Never listens to anybody when she is about to do something stupid, she just has to fall on her face and learn it for herself.

There is something called User accounts.

Limit her to Guest level access. Problems resolved.

Thats if you know how to configure it properly of course.

I know I did that to my public computers. never had a problem with Virus/backdoor/root kit :)
