Windows Mobile 7 home screen  (Source:
WinMo7 interface leaks early

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is scheduled to make a keynote address today at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to announce its next generation mobile operating system. While that keynote address is still roughly two hours away, shots of the Windows Mobile 7 interface have leaked onto the web.

Engadget was able to score some images of the interface courtesy of learnbemobile. Interestingly, the shots were gleamed from banners posted on the walls in the convention center.

From the shots available, we can see that Microsoft has taken a very simplified approach to what appears to be the main home screen for the operating system. Whereas the iPhone OS is littered with icons on its home page (twenty icons including four on the dock for Phone, Mail, Safari, and iPod), Windows Phone 7 Series has icons for Phone, Text Messaging, Email, Facebook, Pictures, Xbox Live, and "Me".

The unannounced phone itself appears to have a Home button which is flanked by a "Back" button and what appears to be a "Search" button.

Stay tuned as we bring you more detail on Microsoft's latest initiative to battle the iPhone OS and Android.

I never cease to be amazed by the bigotry of Apple-maniacs. So what was is it about the iphone that was so innovative? Did Apple come out with the first smart phone? No. Did Apple come out with touch screen? No. Did Apple come out with the first phone to support web browsing or playing back music? No. So what did Apple do? It took a bunch of concepts that other companies and people developed first and made it better. Is that innovation? Yes. So let’s now say Microsoft comes out with Win Mobile 7 and that it is better than Apple's OS(postulation: I haven't actually used it yet). By any sense of the word that would be innovation too. Just because Apple offers a slick interface and makes things work nicely doesn’t make it the best. I've had enough experience with their products to know that they are about controlling every aspect of how to use their stuff. For me that makes it worse than another comparably less sophisticated product. And for me it's a significantly enough big deal that I will never by anything with the apple logo until they change their attitude.
