Lenovo ThinkPad X100e  (Source: Ubergizmo)
X100e is an AMD Neo powered netbook with an 11.6-inch screen

The notebook market is mostly dominated today by netbooks thanks to the poor economy and the low price of the netbooks available today. With economy picking back and Windows 7 now on the market many consumers are looking to replacing aging notebooks with new machines.

Lenovo has unveiled a new netbook called the ThinkPad X100e which runs the AMD Athlon Neo processor. The machine is thin and lightweight at about three pounds. Lenovo promises that the machine can last 5.1 hours on a single charge. The best news is that the AMD-powered netbook is relatively inexpensive with a price of under $500 reports Ubergizmo.

Other features of the X100e include an 11.6-inch HD resolution display, GPS capability, GbE port, a memory card reader, and up to 320GB of storage. The little netbook comes in red, white, or black colors and sports that little red TrackPoint which ThinkPads are famous for along with a traditional trackpad.

An exact launch date for the netbook is unknown, but Lenovo does report that the machine will be available globally. The netbook will also include a one-year warranty that is good globally. That should mean if you are traveling and the machine breaks you can get it fixed anywhere. The keyboard is a full size unit rather than the tiny keyboards smaller netbooks feature.

Lenovo isn’t specific on what OS the machine will run only saying, "business and home OS support." We would bet that means Windows 7 Starter and Business would be available.

Lenovo unveiled its X200 and T400s notebooks back in September if a netbook isn't quite your style.

Personally I can't stand touchpads and wish they would die a slow death...

Anyway this is intriguing to me, I will be curious to see how the performance is. As a Thinkpad devotee this may finally make me consider picking up one of these newfangled netbook thingies. :)

Trackpoint FTW! Now I can finally replace my aging X60 with something that's actually affordable.

YOu can get the X200s for mid $600 or so. Of course that may be out of your pricerange, but it's not THAT much more than this.

That said, I'll keep my eye on this machine. Hopefully it isn't too glossy or flashy. I like the thinkpad look

Can you? Even the refurbs are going for $700+ from what I've seen.

X60 has a Core Duo/Core 2 Duo; that's WAY more powerful than Neo will ever be.

"Game reviewers fought each other to write the most glowing coverage possible for the powerhouse Sony, MS systems. Reviewers flipped coins to see who would review the Nintendo Wii. The losers got stuck with the job." -- Andy Marken
