Official sales numbers are not in at this time

Hardcore gamers tend to buy video games no matter how the economy is. Video games have continued to be robust despite the economic downturn over the last year as people look for ways to spend on entertainment that offer more value.

Certainly one of the biggest games to be released this year will be Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . The game is widely expected by analyst to be a huge money maker for Activision. Some analysts predict that the game will make up a significant portion of Activision's profits for Q4 2009.

The game officially went on sale at 12 am this morning and many locations reported small lines of hardcore gamers waiting at the doors of stores to get their hands on the game. About 10,000 GameStop and Best Buy locations around the world opened at midnight to sell the game.

One GameStop location at Union Square in New York City had a line of about 80 mostly young people lined up about two hours before the store opened.

One person waiting in the line said, "This is the only game I'm probably going to do this for." The young woman planned to play the game all night online against a friend.

An employee at the Union Square GameStop said, "Gamers are enthusiastic about picking this stuff up at midnight."

Sales of the game are expected to top 11 to 13 million units by the end of 2009. One San Francisco Best Buy store had about ten people lined up at 10pm Monday night to buy the game. One man waiting in the line said, "I'm going to be up all night playing it, until I crash."

Modern Warfare 2 has a long way to go to beat the top game from last year -- GTA IV. The game sold 3.6 million units on its first day and 6 million in its first week totaling more than $500 million in sales.

The only basis all of you PC gamers have is speculation of the problems that change may have on your experiences.

Change happens. Get over it.

I played counterstrike for many years.

I love that game. It is amazing in so many ways. Clan servers were by far the best thing ever.

But... I don't play that game anymore. I played MW1 on XBOX 360, and I loved it. I still love it. I love MW2 on top of that.

All of you PC players loved MW1 - It is more than obvious...

You really feel like you had something taken way from you?

You really feel it's your right to slander a company and their product, when they've put more into MW1 and MW2 than most of you complainers and petition signers have done in your entire life?

They owe you nothing. And you owe them nothing. If developers and companies make a decision that they believe will help the game, I'm 99% sure that they know better than you do. I mean hey. They only work on these issues for a living - Even if you work in a tech field, or are developing games - again your speculation of these issues is just that - Why must we criticize someone that has succeeded once already? Why not give them a chance since they have gained some trust in the first place?

Are you really so afraid of change that you won't play with people you don't know very well? Are you that afraid to grow from that wretched domicile world that you've created in front of your PC, and within your little online clan community?

Go back to high school lunch tables - cry about the jocks throwing things at you, or pick on the kids that sit alone.
That is all you are doing. Holding on to some false security of a social interaction that you thought you had control of - If you really need to be in control of something. Why not be in control of your own minds and stop flaming about this dedicated server propaganda?

How many FPS games came out after Team Fortress and Counterstrike?

How many of those games have lost for what? close to a decade of Counterstrikes rein?

If you don’t like it. Stick to MW1. Play with all of your friends and loved ones in the environment that you can understand and enjoy to the fullest, and stop looking out and wishing that you were playing MW2 - Because it is awesome - Don't be jealous - stop hating others for your own acceptance limitations - and if you have to complain about something; stop being so short sighted and ignoring how you really feel.

Acknowledge the fact that you feel betrayed and hurt only by your self created feelings of abandonment - Appreciate what you have - enjoy what you want - and if you're going to look to inform people about what you feel is an injustice, please, please - try to do it in a way that will leave some room for insecure people to make their own decisions - I'm quite sure that there are only a handful of people that really know what the pros and cons are for dedicated vs. non dedicated server support - and if they really knew the differences, I doubt that they would care and they would probably be playing one of the top 10 sequels imo - instead of just unnecessarily feeling like they are a victim.

Misery loves company -

If you're miserable - get over it - and make some room for love.

It's not the idea that there's abandonment or disregard. Now that's taking it to the extreme. Look at the actual consequence of this: people will choose not to buy this game (what do you think they were going to do? Of course many pc gamers aren't going to buy it. You even having to say it will make you sound idiotic). The over-reaching consequence is that this is another step on the slippery slope to the death of PC gaming.

People will not buy the PC version. I.W. will chalk it up to piracy or lack of interest in the PC market. They will excuse themselves from releasing a PC version of COD4. They will assist in creating a new mentality that moves all gaming to consoles, where profit margins are bigger because of more sales and less development cost. PC gaming will be dead.

You may not think it's a big deal, but that's because you lack peripheral vision. Make some room for love? Take some of your own medicine, please.

"They will excuse themselves from releasing a PC version of COD4." ???

- I thought there was already a PC version of COD4?

"They will assist in creating a new mentality that moves all gaming to consoles"

- If them not supporting dedicated servers is assistance, it was only the rope given to all of the people that signed that petition.

"slippery slope"

- I like that one :D

"PC gaming will be dead?" - A little extreme eh?

- You're really off your rocker - World of Warcraft is going to keep PC gaming around -

Now if you're talking about FPS - They are dying a little i'm sure -

"Make some room for love? Take some of your own medicine, please." ???

---- Why thank you very much for taking something rhetorical, and making it your very own just to snub someone. Original. Hats off to your with you exceptional fichus peripheral vision.

"It's not the idea that there's abandonment or disregard."

- You are very wrong. Did the developers not "disregard" the people that aren't happy about this? Why yes. Yes they did.

The truth is.

I agree with a lot of the things people are saying about this.

I guess I got away from my point. If I didn’t have the Xbox version - I would be upset about the PC issue too. But - I decided to not buy the PC version anyway. It would have been a lot cheaper for me. I bought a new 360 last week just to play MW2.
I had an Xbox 360 before - But got rid of it because I sell all of my stuff to pay for gas - HAHA - Feel free to rip on me about that if you want - I can explain later.

Oh yeah!
Again my point.

Get over it - Stop posting on articles that aren't covering the PC debate -

Can I call you Larry the Jamaican? It's Red stripe mon!!!

Yes, it's obvious that a company knows exactly what the CONSUMERS want. Heaven forbid that the consumers try to voice their opinion on what they want. They must obviously be wrong because well, the company knows best after all, right?

I think you should have made the second "consumers" uppercase too.

"Yes, it's obvious that a company knows exactly what the CONSUMERS want. Heaven forbid that the CONSUMERS try to voice their opinion on what they want. They must obviously be wrong because well, the company knows best after all, right? " Sooooo much better.

And no. Consumers have no idea what’s good for them. ever.

But really... The consumers aren't really wrong - I just wanted to rant a little with everyone else...

I guess I just wish that the PC gamers had the server support they wanted, and I was trying to move people to a different view point for fun.

Tactic two.

You guys are right. I really do mean this. the server support requested is reasonable. But I don’t see it changing. And it's a great game still. And I hope that some of you will at least still try it out -
