T-Mobile shows its customers "some boobs". See the bottom right side of the page.  (Source: Consumerist)
Login to your T-Mobile page and you may be in for a surprise

The over 33.5 million customers at the nation's fourth largest mobile carrier, T-Mobile, may be in for a bit of a surprise.  When completing the monthly ritual of logging in to the T-Mobile website to pay his bill, one customer reportedly came across a controversial sight -- topless ladies.

The customer, whose name is Andrew, wrote to The Consumerist:

I have my cell phone service with T-Mobile. This past weekend, I received a e-mail from them saying that my new bill was ready to be viewed and paid for. Being the expeditious person that I am, I logged in to T-Mobile's website, whipped out my trusty credit card, and paid my bill online that same day. In doing so, I made a mental note to print out a copy of the bill for my records on Monday morning when I got to work (where I have a printer access). A little on the anal-retentive side I'd agree with you, but whatever.
Anyways, I logged into the T-Mobile website this morning to do all of this, and attached to this e-mail is a screen shot of my profile page after I finished logging in. Notice anything odd at the bottom of the page, perhaps in the right hand side of the screen, where it says "Connect with MobileLife"? ;)
I assure you that I don't upload pictures of topless women to my T-Mobile account, and that those pictures weren't from my camera phone (which I don't use, and even if I did, look at what type of phone I have! That crappy Razr couldn't take anywhere near that sort of clarity that those shots provide.)

As more similar reports piled in it became clear that the "accidental porn" was anything but the "not common" isolated incident T-Mobile suggested it to be.  One customer, a head of the Human Resources Department, relates a story in which a coworker logged in to his T-Mobile account to resolve an issue with his phone at work and saw a similar topless picture.  He states, "No one – and I mean NO ONE - would believe me when I told them that I did not take the photo, nor did I put it there. I finally had to just drop it because the more I insisted that it wasn't mine, the more guilty I sounded."

Another customer says that the T-Mobile's comes-with-porn created a bit of a sticky situation with his spouse.  He states, "I was actually sitting at the computer with my wife, looking at my bill and trying to add ring-back tones, and all of a sudden, there was a picture of some girls butt with a caption reading 'kiss this'. WTF!!?!?? She FLIPPED! To this day, she STILL talks about it!"

While T-Mobile surely wishes this issue would just disappear, it now appears that the pornographic pictures are more widespread than previously thought and not just confined to "boobs" -- indeed various responders have sent T-Mobile screenshots showing all sorts of anatomy, leaving little untouched.

What's still unclear is exactly how and why T-Mobile is showing these pornographic pictures on its site.  T-Mobile hasn't offered an official response yet, other than to say, "T-Mobile is looking into it and investigating the situation."

Updated 11/5/2009
T-Mobile just sent us over this statement regarding the matter:

T-Mobile is aware of reports from a few customers who have seen inappropriate or unwanted pictures in their online "MyAlbum" section within their MyT-Mobile account. We are taking these reports seriously and actively investigating these issues.

Our initial analysis of the reports leads us to believe that pictures were likely sent to some customers' mobile number by a third party, whether the customers knew the sender or not.  If a customer has not had picture messaging enabled on their handset, a picture sent to them may be delivered only to their online MyAlbum account.  For this reason, some customers are surprised when they see the picture for the first time in their MyT-Mobile account.

We will continue to investigate the reports but if customers would like to avoid receiving picture messages in the future they can explore using T-Mobile’s Message Blocking features which are accessed through their MyT-Mobile account online.

Seriously: how more pathetic Americans can be? It's a country where I can see a throat slashed in premier plan on any weekend 2PM on my TV but boobs, ohhh NOOOOOOO, that's a scandal...!!!
I think I will never move out of NYC, at least not further out than 30 minutes commute... maybe to SF or some other sane place.

Personally I happen to like boobs and think they should be integrated into our daily life for a feeling of fulfillment... but we are a prudish country and because of the standards a different class of political correctness is expected whether you agree to it or not.

I fancy the breast like any other man, but I also dont want it showing up in a place it shouldn't. What if you saw a boob in an ad on the dailytech website while you were at work? While you might smile and enjoy it, it could cost you your job.

How can you say the USA is a prudish country. Hypocrit is more like it.
If you didn't know, the USA is the biggest producer of porn, fer gods sake.

By aharris on 11/5/2009 11:28:07 AM , Rating: 2
Well of course we all know that. We're also the largest consumer market for legal and illegal drugs in the world, but people don't normally show up to work with a few blunts and a stack of needles in their briefcase.

If we produce the most porn in the world it's simply because a domestic and/or worldwide market for it exists, not that we all want to flaunt consumption of porn in public. Whether we all like it or not this country was founded by Protestant Christianity, thus the prudish nature that is currently pervasive in our society. Many will consume drugs/porn/etc, but most will not openly discuss it beyond their immediate inner-circle.

During the dot-com days your boss would probably share his stash, or give you a slap on the back and invite you to strip-joint-Fridays. Female bosses would just get jealous and anonymously forward their own pics around.

I once got stripped by a group of women, lead by the HR manager and the security officer! I miss those days. :-)

America is in the dark ages when it comes to sexuality...

It has been proven over and over again that it is perfectly socially acceptable to sell drugs, steal, gangbang, assault, murder, put a gun to a cop's head and fire (all GTA) - that's perfectly fine. But then the concept of 2 consenting adults having sex - somehow managing to do so without even taking their clothes off...well that's obscene (GTA Hot Coffee).

It is absolutely retarded that people get up in arms about the Hot Coffee issue but apparently have no problem "promoting" the murder of cops.

These are reasons why people are stupid. And why we should be ashamed of ourselves.

LOL ok. That's why America is basically tied with Europe for the porn capital of the world. It's a huge industry here. Also we have legal prostitution, more strip clubs per state than hospitals, Jerey Springer etc etc. Doctor Joyce.. I mean, we could go on and on. Even our PRIESTS have sex with young boys ! How far do you wanna take this ? lol

Honestly one guy has a problem with his phone showing tits and we're in the "dark ages" ??

Try showing a single nipple during the Super Bowl and see where that gets you.

The put a commercial for GTA4 in the Super Bowl and see what happens.

By Reclaimer77 on 11/8/2009 9:10:26 PM , Rating: 1
Obvious huge difference. For one thing, GTA4 is a product that you buy, knowingly. You aren't forced to participate. The Super Bowl thing was a sporting event, which is a family event for most people, and a woman brazenly and unexpectidely showed her breast and nipple. Do I have to point out the obvious difference ?

There is a time and place for everything. And I don't think it's draconian to expect to watch a football game halftime show and not have exposed breasts enter into it. No matter what you think of it, it was just not appropriate.

In about two mouse clicks or a short walk to the TV, I can experience all the breasts, sex, and whatever else I want. It's a CHOICE. But if I was a parent, then sorry, I would rather not have someone flash me and my family when I'm just trying to watch a halftime show.

Now if you think the whole thing was blown out of proportion, then that is valid. But defending the act itself is not. Janet Jackson was wrong to do what she did. Both from a business and a personal and professional standpoint. Not to mention she unfairly put the ABC network is a very bad position and cost them a lot of money and loss of face.

Reclaimer77 if you actually bothered to leave your country you would notice that motoman is spot on. America is very backwards about nudity. Yeah you produce a lot of porn and that... but as someone else said you're hypocrites.
In other places: violence = bad, nudity = acceptable/non-offensive. In america it's the wrong way around.

I think it partially has to do with the sad fact that over 80% of americans are religious. Where as in Europe its around 50%, and in some of the better european countries it's under 30%.

By Autisticgramma on 11/10/2009 11:38:09 AM , Rating: 2
So the solution is to ALWAYS have boobs on the half time show. Heaven knows I might actually not walkaway for 30 minutes, cause usually its crap I don't want to see; and the first time it does, I miss it - indecision on which beer /cry.

So if its expected, then it is a choice. Right?
If they're smart the NFL will start selling boob space in addition to commercials.

More boobs > Less boobs.

NYC is sane? Your city is going broke. The top 5% of NYC resident's pay for 90% of your city services. How is that sane? Successful people are getting tired of propping up the losers in your city and are moving out. By this time 2015 your city will be completely broke. NYC - the new Detroit.

Don't the top 1-5% earners pay 90% of the taxes in the entire United States, & the top 1% has more wealth than the other 95% of Americans combined. Some of you are brutal, not sure how you can paint with a broad brush & call anyone a loser, but I guess that's how it's done on internet.

My personal view is that pornography moreso than violence can cause an insurmountable void of trust in a relationship and break up a marriage. No amount of gore that I've ever heard of has such negative connotations. I am very against pornography for sin-based reasons, but I feel that even taking out the religious factor there is still a common occurrence of mistrust when there is an implanted idea of even the slightest infidelity. My words are referring to most people and there will be many cases of people who don't mind as much but for the most part I think that it is a major issue in a relationship.

I am not religious, & happen to enjoy porn, but individuals have to take responsibility for their actions, instead of blaimig this or that, when their marriage fails. What's the divorce rate, like 50%

By Jabroney701020 on 11/6/2009 12:41:38 PM , Rating: 2
I agree completely. People have to choose to go down that avenue, and then the trust is broken or severely damaged in most cases. It's definitely a choice that one or both partners make.

By LRonaldHubbs on 11/5/2009 7:29:19 PM , Rating: 3
The underlying problem is that people lie to themselves and say they are going to change instead of just accepting who they are and finding a partner who also accepts them. People should be honest and up-front with their partner and not enter into a serious relationship on the assumption that they will change. This applies to all aspects of one's character.

By rburnham on 11/6/2009 2:29:00 AM , Rating: 3
Thank you. I have seen to many marriages break down due to this one thing. People get marred with complaints about each other, but they just figure "marriage will change them". Then that never happens, everyone is disappointed and they split. Porn has nothing to do with it. If you like porn, make sure your partner does too and you're golden.

By William Gaatjes on 11/7/2009 8:15:59 AM , Rating: 2
Then you relation is based on sex and not on the love and the spiritual connection between you and your wife.
Because when people have a healthy marriage, seeing other couples still having love for each other and still desiring each other they to start to desire each other even more. But it has to be based on unconditional love and spritual connection or the desire goes out to other people.

Nothing wrong with openly talking about sex, as long as you have your boundaries.

By Autisticgramma on 11/10/2009 11:47:43 AM , Rating: 2
Not sure I would give the trolls that much ammo. Religion on daily tech is like porn at a baptist convention.

Maybe I'm just a hardass here but, if porn breaks up a marriage:

1. First time a money argument happens its done for.
2. Someone needs a little confidence, porn is still behind the glass, no touchy.

*Unless your spouse is also behind the glass, in which case there isn't enough room or time to go into that FAIL.

Calm down... everyone thinking its unprofessional for a company to show "porn" related images on an account page is not a "tight wad" , a "prude", or anything specific. There's a time and place (as I mentioned earlier) for everything....I'm straight 30-something American Man...trust me I have no problem admiring the perfectly toned and chiseled naked body of a gorgeous woman.....no problme with it at all. But I'm not expecting nor wanting to see that on an account page of a company I'm doing business with.

I think ANYONE posting that folks are prudish or uptight over such things --- have a whacked out mentality and view of things.

The attitude of going "its prudish" to get uptight over naked images on a cell phone account page -- everyone should just calm down, is akin to the same mentality of not controlling your language around a young child because 'well he/she is gonna hear it soon or later anyway' or seeing no big deal in your 14 or 15 year old being sexually active -- because 'well its just human nature after all, it was gonna happen sooner or later anyway'..

Seriously grow up.

No, those are not equivalent.

Firstly, there is a difference between criticizing someone's parenting practices and actively defying them. The comments here about porn are analogous to telling a parent that they are too uptight about profanity. Actually posting porn would be analogous to your example of swearing in front of someone else's kids.

Secondly, there is a large difference between viewing porn and having sex. Otherwise you are implying that every stereotyped, basement-dwelling, keyboard-ruining geek is really a muff master.

I find this very intrigueing(sp?) as i am a T-Mobile user as well and the questionable content on the my.t-mobile page for the user, where the pictures are being shown are ones that come from the users phone, not an outside source.

IE, if i took a picture with my phone or received a picture from a friend and tagged it to go to "My Album", which most users do sadly not knowing "My Album" = to the www, then it will show on your personal my.t-mobile page. It's not publicly shown unless you set it to be in a photo hosting site like photo bucket, picasa, etc.

Just figure i'd add my 2 cents...

Firstly, this has become the greatest story and thread evar, EVAR! I am super cereal.

All joking (and perhaps chiding) aside, this is the sort of thing you get when you mix tremendous networking, easily accessible cameras and photo content, and a nation of jackasses that think their naked bits are worth 1000 words. It's nothing short of assault, as the user did not agree to view, or attempt to solicit, or consent to download pornography. In fact, this is literally nothing more than being flashed in a public(ish) place.

I get the anger; people exposing themselves to others against their will isn't anything new, and is no less disturbing than an old fart jerking his doodle in a park or a grocery store.

However, calling people prudish for not saying "BOOBS?! AWESOME!" is being pretty thoughtless. Would it be just as awesome if it were some guys flapping man-handle you were reading about?

Double-standards, much?

You don't see the problem with this?

quote:
I have a company supplied T-Mobile blackberry. Very unfortunately, when my phone wasn't working, one of the women in our IT department went to my T-Mobile account page to correct the issue and found a very graphic and clear picture of a woman's breasts. It created a terrible situation. No one – and I mean NO ONE - would believe me when I told them that I did not take the photo, nor did I put it there. I finally had to just drop it because the more I insisted that it wasn't mine, the more guilty I sounded. The problem here is that I am the head of the Human Resources Department. I wish it had turned out to be a funny situation, but it didn't take that path. For many other people, this could be humorous. In my situation, it wasn't.

That could have gotten him FIRED.

Ya, America is backwards. In some countries in Europe, you see boobs in commercials during the day on broadcast tv. Some day, I hope we could import that idea.

Funny. Try repeating the exact same words you said to your boss, your girlfriend or your wife, or even your kid when they found out you are looking at porn that just randomly appeared from a normal unsuspecting website that just popped without warning, and age verification.

Then you are either an extremely immature person or an extreme idiot.

Time and place for everything -- pornagraphic images no matter if its only "soft" porn by your standards or not -- has no place to be on billing page for a cell phone carrier.
