Fisker Karma  (Source: Motor Authority)

The Fisker Karma makes an appearance in California.   (Source: Ethermax)
Apparently Fisker has several new models planned...

Fox News' previous commentary about Fisker Automotive may have been a bit skewed and inaccurate (Fox show hosts tried to claim Fisker was not a U.S. firm -- blatantly wrong), but Fox's latest take of Fisker is not only much more accurate, but also caught a humorous and significant gaff.  Apparently Vice President Joe Biden accidentally revealed Fisker's entire upcoming lineup -- including unannounced vehicles that Fisker indicates it wasn't exactly planning to reveal quite yet.

VP Biden tipped Fisker's hand at the official announcement ceremony for Fisker's new Delaware plant, an old GM factory which was shut down and sold through GM's bankruptcy holding.  Speaking to reporters, Fox News notes that Biden said, "Imagine when this factory, when the floor we’re standing on right now is making 100,000 plug-in hybrid sedans, coupes and crossovers every single year."

The only problem was that the coupes and crossovers were supposed to be a surprise announcement for a later date.  However, good secrets seldom seem to be able to be kept and the Vice President unwittingly let the cat out of the bag.  Interviewed after the announcement, company founder and CEO Henrik Fisker commented, "[Laughter] He definitely told what our product plans are."

Aside from the leak, plenty more juicy details were revealed officially in the interview session following the announcements.  Fisker revealed that the first vehicles to come from the plant will be the previously announced sedan, which is dubbed Nina.  Fisker is targeting a price of
$40,000 for the vehicle after state and federal tax credits are taken into account, similar to the expected sticker for the 2011 Chevy Volt.  Production will start in 2012, and the vehicle will recycle the sporty powertrain from Fisker's flagship electric sports sedan, Karma.

Reportedly, the stylings of the Nina, named after the ship Christopher Columbus used in his triumphant return to Europe, are very attractive for a mass-market EV.  Government officials were briefed on the design and apparently were impressed, something that helped them reach the decision to grant the company a $528.7M USD DOE loan to buy and retool the shuttered plant.

Describes Mr. Fisker, "
It’s going to have a very exciting radical design.  We actually just showed it to the vice president of the United States of America and he said ‘it looks like a four-door Ferrari, I can’t believe it’s only going to be $40,000.’"

The Karma will begin production next year at Valmet in Finland and will be imported into the U.S. and sold for approximately $80,000 after tax credits.  Then in 2016 a second generation Karma will be launched, and production will shift to the retooled Delaware plant, according to Mr. Fisker.  Mr. Fisker confirmed that the first generation Karma will get 67 mpg and travel 50 miles in all-electric mode.  He says some drivers will be able to reach 100 mpg or more, depending on how they drive.

Mr. Fisker also revealed that the Karma will feature "stealth" and "sport" modes which allow the user to manually switch on or off the gas engine for more performance, something not known to be offered in the Chevy Volt.  Even once the battery is depleted, Mr. Fisker states that the gas engine is almost equally efficient at delivering power to the electric motors as the battery system.

A prototype Karma was glimpsed at the
California's Laguna Seca raceway, running laps.  That has been the vehicle's only live appearance so far, outside of auto shows.  No journalist has yet taken the intriguing electric sports sedan out for a spin -- yet.

WHAT! Are you kidding!

Cheney and W fooled the US and most of it's friends into a war on Iraq with lies about WMD. Have you not followed all the investigations about how the WMD evidence was fabricated.

Oh, and as for waterboarding not being torture. Making a claim like that means youre either trolling or so not understanding what it is. Waterboarding is almost kliing someone by drowning and keeping it up for extended periods of time.

The whole Bush "era" is a black spot on the US history and it is only on Fox that realization has not gotten through. I guess it is because they are so "neutral" when reporting news. I am not sure what is worse Fox News or those believing their every word!

I don't know what's worse, wholly believing ANY organization (Fox, CNBC, all of them) with an agenda, or going in a public forum and stating in front of God and everyone that you are a sheep. LOL! Pull your head out! They are ALL full of sh!t! They all mix lies with half truths.

News = Entertainment. No more, no less. It's about ads and ratings. All Fox is doing is exploiting the conservative niche (if I'd though of it, I'd do it too) since most "news" companies have been traditionally liberal. I only watch the TV news because a co-worker likes to watch TV at work. I only watch the local, morning stuff when at home, get other news from the internet, and listen to a couple of talk radio broadcasts when I'm driving to work.

I prefer just the talk radio because it's mostly about state and local stuff and the hosts are not registered Repubs or Dems (although they do vote).

You're a nimrod.

The The Brits are taxed to support the BBC so if you think the BBC has anything other than a pro-government slant then you're a tool... a useful idiot.

You sir know nothing about how the BBC or a lot of other public broadcasting networks in Europe work!
Shows on the BBC routinely criticize, joke about and ridicule the government!!! (Top Gear e.g.)

In my home country Denmark, the government constantly whine that the public broadcasting network, Denmarks Radio, is socialist and anti-government.

I know. It must be difficult to understand. But outside the US, critical, objective - TAX PAID - news is possible.

Of course they make mistakes as well. Of course sometimes it is biased. But that is true for all media outlets.

Don't call others useful idiots when you don't know what you're talking about. Who's using you?

Every quote after 2001 was made from bad and fabricated information that was fed to the House and Senate. That fact has already been proven time and again. Of course if I was going off the "evidence" which was showed, I would have supported the action in Iraq as well. We are talking about one of the ONLY powers in the world to use chemical and biological warfare since it was recognized in World War I as an extremely cruel method of warfare which indiscriminately attacks innocent civilians (possibly more-so as the military personnel are at least given basic protective measures like chemical suits, and gas masks).

As a result of Saddam's known past use of chemical and biological agents during his war with Iran in the 1980's, you could only conclude that he would use them again in the future. Then all that is needed is to fabricate evidence that he is creating and stock-piling these types of weapons in order to get support to attack, which was done by President Bush and/or his advisers and/or intelligence agencies who had their own agendas which they were playing out. All of it may simply have been a stunt to get more funding for an agency or program.

I can easily see an intelligence group filtering their current findings to say that they do not know if he has WMD's, but has a known capability for producing them. Or to say that they believe that he may have WMDs, and do not know what or how many, but if you give us more funding we could find out... Then when that simple power play for funding exploded into a call for war, it was too late to change the intelligence report, as everyone involved in it would have been fired, and jailed. Thus you have the mess we are still in now, only that we now at least know that the "evidence" was fabricated.

Have you ever read the 1991 cease fire agreement that Sadam signed when we kicked his rump out of Kuwait? The only part of that agreement that he *didn't* break was manufacturing WMDs. By the way, the fact that the 1991 conflict ended with a "cease fire" means that we were still technically (and legally) at war with Iraq.

Not only that, if people look back had the coalition followed thru and done back in 91 like they should have much of what we see today could have been avoided. There is absolutely no question that the US would have entered Iraq again at some point anyway .. it was just a matter of when.

It's a damn shame to because the US and it's allies would have alot more friends in the middle east now if they'd just finished what was started. Ah well.. no one can see the future I guess.
