Voting runs through October 8

Last year about this time, Google launched a new program called 10 to the 100 seeking ideas from everyday people that could help others around the globe. Google reports that it received over 150,000 ideas and has chosen the best as part of a handful of finalists for the public to vote on.

Out of the 150,000, ideas that were submitted through the program Google distilled that down to 16 "big ideas" that were each inspired by numerous individual submissions. The idea is for the public to help choose up to five projects that Google will help fund.

The sixteen big ideas include: Create genocide monitoring and alert system, Enhance science and engineering education, Promote health monitoring and data analysis, Create real-world issue reporting system, Create real-time natural crisis tracking system, Make government more transparent, Help social entrepreneurs drive change, Provide quality education to African students, Encourage positive media depictions of engineers and scientists, Build better banking tools for everyone, Work toward socially conscious tax policies, Collect and organize the world's urban data, Create more efficient landmine removal programs, Drive innovation in public transport, Build real-time, user-reported news service, and Make educational content available online for free.

Voting to choose the top ideas will end on October 8, only a few days from now.

Could those ideas be more vague? I hope the submissions included some How To's? Or else a Miss Universe pageant constant could have come up with those...I wish for World Peace!!

Seriously? Create "Genocide monitoring and alert system?" What the hell does that even mean?

Worst. Project. Ever.

Too late. There's an app for it already and Apple's got the patent.

For now. Someone camped it out back in 1998 but never made a product, so Apple -THINKS- they have an original idea. Also, Adobe, Sun, Creative, iRobot (the roomba guys,) eBay, Toyota, Mattell, Valve, and Blizzard have things that skirt on the idea, and they're getting sued too.

I like the one promoting science and engineering. Thats the only one I can see being beneficial.

Government transparency

This is the most important. Every LAW we have should be online. Every court decision should be online.

Everything should be search able.

Budget should be completely posted with nothing blacked out. And it should be search able.

Politicians political history and voting record should be posted and search able.

The laws are the most important. How are we supposed to follow the law if we can't get easy access to them? Especially when ignorance of the law is no excuse. So Let us have the damn LAWs already.

Polls should be posted for every issue our politicians are voting on. One vote per IP can be counted and the IP has to be in the area of where each Representative represents. (this is the only way to stop cheating as cookies will also be used so people with more than one IP will get caught for voting twice on the same computer. Some cell phones won't work because At&t's IPs are all located in Florida for some damn reason.)

How dare you.. your poll mechanism is inherently biased against the poor. Only the filthy rich with fancy computers and such will be able to vote. one vote per IP means acorn cant flood the local public library with the homeless and cast votes. No, instead we need polling booths at every homeless shelter, Ikea, and country club! I suppose finger print id's will work right? .. We are not a democracy for a reason. Its the representatives job to stay in touch with his constituency.... lol yea right.

The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design.

These polls I am talking about are not for anything other than for our politicians to what the people they represent want. If you're without a computer and want to vote then you should go to a local location where you can place a vote on a voting machine. Remember this is for them to get a better idea of what the people they represent actually want. And we'll be able to know if they voted based on their finial supporters or actually what we the people wanted. I never said it was without flaws but it would be 100 times better than what they are doing now. Which is to just vote how they want or what the lobbyist buy them so sway their minds.

How about an electronic election system.
When you register to vote you get a number.
On election day or before, you put the number in a website in order to vote.
When the election is certified, you can download a spreadsheet of everyone's voter number (but not their name) and how they voted along with the tally. This way you know your vote has been counted.
If you don't have a PC you can go to the polling place with your number to vote. You can go to the public library too, if you want.
You can't vote if you lose your number...so don't lose it. If it's 30 days before the election or more, you can re-register and get a new number.

I got a ticket for "Negligent Operation" of a motor vehicle. It's a minor traffic offense. I cannot find the applicable law anywhere. What does that even mean? What do you have to do to be guilty of such a thing?

What about my idea!?

That's stupid, unlike the real list. 'Doing work' isn't a big idea - they're looking for concepts that will make the world a better place. That's what gets the Nobel Prize nowadays too, apparently, but I digress.

I'm hoping to get my prize for wanting water to turn into gold. Wait, maybe that can be one of the 16 big ideas!

- Water that turns into gold.
- Nicer formatting for Google search results.
- Everyone really healthy and good looking.
- Sun should never burn out.
- Simple thermostat to control global temperature.
- Desalination of the oceans so you can swim in them without getting that gross saltwater taste.
- More rapidly expanding cities built in deserts.
- Everyone on the government dole to show the man who's boss.
- Daytime/nighttime monitoring application with simple mechanical voting mechanism that avoids fraud. (Obviously real-time since knowing it WAS night or that it WAS daytime isn't going to help solve our problems, and ideally going through some sort of electoral college.)
- Improved efficiency for Daylight Savings Time to achieve 26-30 hour days.
- A month that includes the number 2 - like F-2-the-ebruary.
- A color calibration system that really works and is simple to use.
- Imposition of a truly global religion based on archaic, illogical rantings.
- Enlarge the moon to make it easier for near-sighted people without glasses to enjoy.
- More time to think of 1 more fantastic idea. (Sorry for burning one of the great ideas with this, it's like using a wish to get another wish. I'm somewhat ashamed, but I'm confident that #16 is going to be worth it.)

There, I feel like I've done my part! I'd add something about all hot women knowing me in the biblical sense as #16, but I'm married, so someone else will have to take on the rest of them. I'm just sorry I didn't know Google was looking for input earlier since I feel I could have made a difference.

Do work. Hah, I'd like to see that really make a difference!
