No release date offered, but Blizzard confirms the development of Cataclysm
During the beginning of BlizzCon 2009, Blizzard officials confirmed development of the latest
World of Warcraft
, though an official launch date hasn't been offered.
"I'm confident it will be nothing less than Earth-shattering," said Chris Metzen, Blizzard VP of development, who publicly introduced the game. "It will literally change the world of Azeroth as you know it."
News of the expected
announcement first leaked onto the Internet a few weeks back, though Blizzard didn't make an official announcement. The new expansion will raise the current character level cap from 80 up to 85, offering two new character races, and a new, revamped Azeroth as
gamers know it.
The new races include the goblins -- for the horde -- and the wolf-like worgen -- for the alliance -- along with flying mounts, dungeons, raids and race-class combinations. As expected in an expansion, the game also will offer new monsters and hundreds of new questions, along with several new playing zones.
BlizzCon attendees saw a new trailer that showed Azeroth in ruins, with tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and tidal waves ravaging the countryside as a dragon rose from the Earth.
Blizzard is notorious for releasing video games "when they're done," and most of the studio's game titles undergo at least one delay before launch. Although Blizzard didn't say when gamers can expect
to be released, the rumor mill is churning out unconfirmed information it could be ready sometime next spring.
If you're a WoW gamer, will you purchase the
Also noted during BlizzCon, Blizzard mentioned
will be released in 2010, almost 10 years after the latest
expansion game. I'm still waiting to learn more about
-- a game I saw a few years ago, and though t looked pretty good -- but it seemingly has vanished.

I'll never fault folks for having different tastes -- if we all liked the same things, think of how bland the world would be......that's not to say I wouldn't crack a joke about different tastes.......
MMOs (of any flavor pick ANY of them) are largely a success/fail on the community and the people who associate with in the game. Like I said I still game with largely the same folks today as almost 5 years ago -- so its like playing with friends...all our groups and everything are rarely including "outsiders".
As for the wow community (as in the forums and general and trade chat channels in game) ---- you got me there...its horrible. Mostly immature kids busting on every single thing you can imagine (if it makes sense or not).
SW:TOR --- I'm intrigued I might check that out myself. I can only afford one game that is pay to play so it has to be extremely good (I have a lot invested time/friends in WoW).
"It's okay. The scenarios aren't that clear. But it's good looking. [Steve Jobs] does good design, and [the iPad] is absolutely a good example of that." -- Bill Gates on the Apple iPad
