Joe Biden is in Michigan today, reportedly to announce the first round of $2B in battery grants.  (Source: The Weekly Standard)
Grants bring good news to state's troubled economy

Michigan is among the states that has been hit hardest by the recession.  The government went to extreme measures to keep the state's economy from collapsing, including assuming majority ownership of GM and propping up Chrysler through bankruptcy.  Now the federal government is preparing to reach deeper into its pockets to help the state out even more.

Vice President Joe Biden is in Michigan today at the NextEnergy Center in Detroit.  He is reportedly going to announce the first round of $2B USD in Department of Energy battery grants.  The grants should boost the state's economy and help develop better electric vehicles, currently favored as the future of the car industry by the domestic automakers.

The federal government is also separately loaning money to battery manufacturers under the $25 billion Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Incentive Program (ATVM).  Among the battery manufacturers that applied for that loan are A123 Systems, EnerDel, and Compact Power.  Thus far Ford, Nissan, and Tesla Motors received ATVM loans.  It is unknown who the grants will go to, but A123 Systems, EnerDel, and Compact Power seem like leading candidates.

Ed DeSeve, the president's special advisor on the stimulus program, had stated about on July 21, "I think you'll see over the next week or so ... some industrialization focus, for example, on the battery grants that are coming.  It makes sense to put those in places where there is productive working capacity -- people who can do the jobs. There are plants where the jobs can exist, and I think you are going to start to see more and more of that over time."

The ATVM loans must be repaid eventually by automakers and battery makers.  However, the DoE grants do not have to be repaid.  Michigan has also offered battery makers some big tax cuts in hopes of luring business into the state.

A limited amount of tickets to Mr. Biden's appearance have been offered to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Not to mention that his birth was mentioned in SEVERAL local newspapers, confirmed by the hospital records, the physicians records, and he has already released the exact same record of birth that all other previous presidents have.

The Birthers are right up there with 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

All of this nonsense started when Elvis shot Lincoln then went to his time machine under area 51 only to reappear in 1961 to kill Kennedy then poison Maralyn Monroe with secret Alien juice.

Im not so much concerned with the birth certificate because its highly unlikely it will ever be put to rest - its too late now. But I'd like to know whether his citizenship was ever rescinded when he went to Indonesia. I do not believe you can even be a dual citizen in order to be President.

Either way, I'm much more afraid of his policies than his background. He's here now. We've got much better chance of stopping him and putting the brakes on for the next 3 years than you do getting rid of him.

Pretty much. I'm far more concerned with what he's doing than where he came from at the moment.

I'm more afraid of this constant two party BS than Obama's background. I think it poisons objectivity and creates a near religious following of its supporters. Facts are out the door! If the man wasn't a US citizen, it would have been brought to light BEFORE he was a candidate for President. Do you really think the Republican party would sit on that? Do you think the ENTIRE Democratic Party would sit on that? This debate about his birth is ridiculous. It's as crazy as the people that think we've never been to the moon.

There you go. You're own official Kenyan birth certificate. (And yes, that's identical to his "Kenyan birth certificate" that was released.) Just look at the certificate and here are the flaws:

quote:

Kenya was a Dominion the date this certificate was allegedly issued and would not become a republic for 8 months.

Mombasa belonged to Zanzibar when Obama was born, not Kenya.

Obama's father's village would be nearer to Nairobi, not Mombasa.

The number 47O44-- 47 is Obama's age when he became president, followed by the letter O (not a zero) followed by 44--he is the 44th president.

EF Lavender is a laundry detergent.

I'd like you to name one president that publically released their birth certificate. And if we're going to nitpic the resolution that would allow McCain to even become President of the United States was passed 11 months after he was born. John McCain was born outside of the US controlled Panama Zone. But the House passed a bill with fuzzy-warm words saying he was a Natural born citizen (the Senate did the same for Obama) and no one made a big deal about it.

Do you not think that the CIA and all these other agencies wouldn't do background checks on candidates for Presidency? Do you think that this is all some big conspiracy? Lets see... Someone is born in Kenya... They contact the health agencies on a "fringe state" of the US and tell them to make a birth announcement in the local papers (In Hawaii at the time, all birth announcements were from the gov), then they ship him over there an wait 40 years, and here's the easy part, then all he has to win is the election for President of the United States of America! Now I see the brilliant plan to undermine the country!

The Governor of Hawaii has gone on record to say that Obama was born in her state, the state officials have made announcements saying he is. Various judges including U.S. district judges have dismissed all cases dealing with this issue.

The issue is dead, stick a fork in it done. Fine something else to troll about.

But see the CIA is in on "this" too. What had happened was the Democrats in the CIA had a secret program, Project HNIC, whose purpose was to hide the true birthplace of Obama by kidnapping all of Hawaii's government officials and doctors and replacing them with pro-Obama liberalpolarbearsolarcarbontaxforeignoilpriusbbq's.

This has all been debunked by that liberal rag, the Wall Street Journal. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014240529702046...

The Cliff Notes:
What he released IS the official and legal birth certificate of Hawaii, even if they call it something else. It would be accepted by your employer, and by any court in the country. Hawaii won't even release anything else to normal citizens, the only reason Obama might even be able to get the original is because he's the president of the USA and it's unlikely some civil worker would say no to him.

The states Republican governor has vouched for it. Do you really expect people to believe that a Republican is lying to protect Obama?

There's seriously much more to support the idea that the moon landing was faked than there is for this. It's no different than all the liberal conspiracy theorists who think Bush and the CIA were behind 9/11 and the conservatives who think Clinton murdered Vince Foster.

quote:
Then there's the whole recent Kenyan birth certificate that just came out. You saying people are willing to risk fraud in order to frame the man?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Ok, really? You're saying there's not a single person in the whole country who would go into photoshop and whip up a fake document real quick? I think the Daily Show has already done that, in fact. Remember the whole CBS/Rather-gate thing with the faked documents about Bush? There are always wackos out there that will try to kill the President, no matter what kind of politics he follows. You really think they're too afraid to print out a piece of paper?

quote:
Nor did he really release any personal information as every other presidential candidate has ever done in recent history

Well, he release 2 full books full. The only stuff I can recall where McCain did put out more was the health stuff you mentioned, and it's self-obvious that someone running to be the 2nd-oldest president ever would need to release more health information than one of the youngest ever candidates. Sure, Obama smokes, but if you do even a basic check of mortality rates, you see that Obama is going to live far, far longer than McCain barring some crazy stroke or something that comes out of nowhere.

Obama released a couple pages. Why? Especially when the man is a smoker and has even admitted to taking and dealing drugs.

How is being a smoker in any way connected to the rest of this paragraph?

When did Obama admit to "dealing drugs"? What drugs did he allegedly deal? Where is a link to support your accusation?

Dude, there are TWO types of birth certificates. One for LIVE BIRTH, short form, and LEGAL BIRTH, long form, with ALL details signifying a LEGAL birth. The long form is the only one that counts, the short form goes in the scrapbook with your baby pictures.

Your examples are the short form "certificate of live birth" my kids have those too, signatures, raised seal and all, but I had to get the long form to get them a passport. Yes, my new copy of my certificate is a standardized computer generated long form with more information than what is shown in your examples. Even the Gov of Hawaii has said the one released is the short form and says this is silly, I agree, it is silly.

If you try to get a passport with a "short form" you WILL be sent away because it's not a LEGAL DOCUMENT, period. I'm sure he has a passport.

I only see this as obama playing a game of distraction, usually if there is one there is the other, but not always, so just show it and be done with it. What is there to hide? So much for transparency... On to the games!

They accepted the short form when I got my passport a couple of years ago . . .

Not in Hawaii. There's only one, that's backed by the full legal force of the state, which means it is accepted everywhere, by everyone.
