Chinese officials take Godfather game to the mattresses

The Chinese government has announced that it has banned online games that glamorize gangs. According to the government, any websites featuring or publicizing online games, which glamorize mafia gangs, will be "severely punished." Exactly what the severe punishment will be is unknown.

Reuters reports that the Culture Ministry said games that, "advocate obscenity, gambling, or violence," and "undermine morality and Chinese traditional culture." The official Xinhua news agency continued saying, "These games encourage people to deceive, loot and kill, and glorify gangsters' lives. It has a bad influence on youngsters."

The Chinese agency specifically pointed out the Godfather title from EA as one of the offending games. The Cultural Ministry has ordered law enforcement bodies to step up oversight on sites that continue to run this sort of game.

Chinese officials have a lot of ground to cover to enforce these rules. China's online game industry is expected to grow from 30 to 50% this year with sales revenues of as high as 27 billion yuan. China reportedly has about 200 million online game players, the largest number in the world.

China previously announced that Green Dam filtering software would be required on all computers sold in the country, but it backed down from that under criticism.

It isn't just that - it is a genetic disorder. Some people are genetically predisposed to alcoholism. Anyone who says that only weak minded people are alcoholics has not dealt with a family of alcoholics.

My whole darned family is full of alcoholism. My father, his mother, my uncle, my grandfather for starters were all alcoholics. They were ALL strong minded people with the exception of my uncle. My father was extremely successful in his career and made millions in an extremely high stress job - something no weak minded person would last at. It is the kind of business where only 1 out of 15 people make it. He was also an officer in the Navy - something a weak minded person is highly unlikely to become due to the sheer stress and pressure they put upon you in OCS.

Unfortunately, all of them had the problem and none of them, with the exception of my father, were ever able to quit drinking. He suffered from it for 30+ years and finally cut it cold turkey but still suffered the traits and symptoms associated with the disorder. It is a problem that some people can not help and all it takes is one drink and they are hooked.

Just look at the Native American population for any indication to truth in this - they are extremely prone to alcoholism. It has nothing to do with being weak minded but more in how you are wired from birth. It is a messed up disorder and I can spot alcoholics from a mile away.

To this day I loathe being around people consuming alcohol after what I had to go through growing up. It isn't the happyness and merriment I fear, it is the random unpredictability that alcoholics possess that is quite scary when they are inebriated.

"Game reviewers fought each other to write the most glowing coverage possible for the powerhouse Sony, MS systems. Reviewers flipped coins to see who would review the Nintendo Wii. The losers got stuck with the job." -- Andy Marken
