Chinese officials take Godfather game to the mattresses

The Chinese government has announced that it has banned online games that glamorize gangs. According to the government, any websites featuring or publicizing online games, which glamorize mafia gangs, will be "severely punished." Exactly what the severe punishment will be is unknown.

Reuters reports that the Culture Ministry said games that, "advocate obscenity, gambling, or violence," and "undermine morality and Chinese traditional culture." The official Xinhua news agency continued saying, "These games encourage people to deceive, loot and kill, and glorify gangsters' lives. It has a bad influence on youngsters."

The Chinese agency specifically pointed out the Godfather title from EA as one of the offending games. The Cultural Ministry has ordered law enforcement bodies to step up oversight on sites that continue to run this sort of game.

Chinese officials have a lot of ground to cover to enforce these rules. China's online game industry is expected to grow from 30 to 50% this year with sales revenues of as high as 27 billion yuan. China reportedly has about 200 million online game players, the largest number in the world.

China previously announced that Green Dam filtering software would be required on all computers sold in the country, but it backed down from that under criticism.

Exactly how will they BAN these games???
By Oxygenthief on 7/28/2009 11:28:14 AM , Rating: -1
Considering every Chong, Ping, and Lee in China obtains their copies of games illegally (i.e. not buying them in stores) how does the government expect to enforce such a ban? They sure as hell won't close down the torrent feeds!!! How else will they get 99% of their entertainment?

Got the balls to vote me down, but not the brainpower to form a response? Gotta love Vote-Trolls...

Or maybe they just don't want to reply to idiots, wait I just did...

Well how many people will actually reply with "Tom, Dick, and Harry" if the roles were reversed? Oh yeah, only the handful of idiots who fail at attempting humor... just like yourself. Do you get your kicks from trying to pick fights on Dailytech? Good for you, but it's time to move out of mom's basement.

I am going to take a wild stab and assume this statement is the reason why.

See my response to Yongsta...

No point in saying the same thing twice.

If that is what you actually meant with no harm intended then I give you a "golf clap" for actually doing the research to argue your point. Problem is the implications in your statement and you right off the bat "assume" he pulled the race card. All he did was call you an idiot. He could have been calling you and idiot because you assumed all Chinese gamers "steal" their games instead of getting legit copies. You brought up race and had to backup your statement with research. So obviously you had that in mind from the get go. Who was the idiot again?

Actually I combined my response to his and your posts into one reply. Thus why I pointed my reply to you back to my reply to Yongsta.

After reading your response, I assumed both of you were forum trolls attempting to destroy an otherwise inoccuous post (by pulling the race card) and as a result my reply seemed fitting for both of you (like minds, or troll minds in this case, think alike after all).

So to answer your question, the idiot label seems fitting for both of you now, thanks for asking...

You still fail at the game of life. Please show me where him or I pulled the race card in the 2 statements responding to yours about vote trolls?

My statement was my opinion on why you were getting modded down, and his was just simply calling you an idiot.

Thank you drive through!

Sorry, no one buys your answer. You are still tap dancing around my point. You and the other troll brought up race, not me. Hell you even tried to "correct" your remark in one of your latter posts to say you weren't commenting on race but rather that everyone steals.

My observation still stands, you are the retarded troll. Crawl back under the bridge you came from or go back to McDonalds (you seem to have the "thank you drive through" verbiage down pat).

Maxima2k2se = MEGAFAIL

LOL your right I did fail, I failed to see that you were trolling me along. To answer you though if you look at the time stamps on all the statements you will notice you were the FIRST one to bring race into anything when you claimed Yongsta pulled the race card when all he did was call you an idiot. The statement I corrected was because I had the balls to admit I miss quoted you. Keep digging though one day you might reach china. Ok I am done being trolled on this topic at least... Go eat a bag of D!cks and choke :)

Nice backpedaling...

I only wish you would have corrected yourself before you decided to troll my posts. Would have saved me three or four attempts to correct your retarded self.

At least you are willing to admit that you are an F-tard. Kudos corky!

You were modded troll because those Chongs, Pings and Lees did not necessarily obtain those game illegally. Unless of course you have proof that the piracy rate in China is 100%. Plus, most of the online gamers in China plays free MMORPGs or the ones that needed subscription (this one is rarer though).

Yeah, hold on let me reach into my @ss and pull out the proof you need. Because without the 100% my point is moot, right?

Wow! If I understand you correctly my question of how China will perform the action of banning the game with the implied sentiment that the MAJORITY of China currently pirates such games is not of consequece because 100% of the population doesnt pirate? WTF?

By the looks of things, you yourself were modded down. More than likely because you make absolutely no sense what-so-ever. Thanks for playing Vote-Troll, it was fun.

Eh, I don't see red unlike your first post. I don't think you know how mainland China online gamers plays, or else you won't say the things you claim in the first post of yours (still red from here).

Now, you still haven't answered the question on how these Chinese pirates can 'pirate' free MMORPGs yet. And calling the majority of them pirates is why your first post stay in red unlike my previous one (and likely this one too). Remember, Chinese gamers do not play games Americans/Europeans do. I pretty damn sure that you do not know the Chinese gamers, or ever visit the country, or even have any friends from that part of the world for making such ignorant statement that makes your been vote-down into the red.

Vote-Trolls travel in packs. It only takes two retards like yourself to put someone in the red. I am guessing you Yongsta and Maxima2k2se are all part of the "ghey gamers for China" clan. But at least you have friends now...

As for me not answering your question on how the chinese pirate "free" games... WTF are you talking about retard. Did you not even read the article? No one here, except you, is talking about "free" games. Pull your head out.

As for not knowing anyone in that country, you are right, I do not. I do know that there are a ton of articles on the subject of China being one of the worst offenders when it comes to pirating games and dvds. WHICH WAS MY POINT FROM THE BEGINNING YOU RETARDED TROLL!
