Hardware WD Doubles WD Raptor Capacity To 150 GB

Western Digital ratchets up performance and storage capacicty with its latest Raptor.

Western Digital has developed quite a following in the enthusiast community with its first and second generation Raptor hard drives. The next generation Raptor was announced today with a storage capacity of 150GB.  The new drive shares the same 10,000 RPM spindle speed and average seek time of 4.6 ms with its predecessors while also offering up 16MB of cache and a native SATA-150 interface (instead of a PATA to SATA bridge) with NCQ.

Really? I thought server market is where the money is. Raptor's popularity resides within the DIY/enthusiasts market, which is relatively small compared to the server market. This is also why WD, back out from server market a few years ago, is eager to establish Raptor as the budget-friendly alternative to SCSI based hard drives.

Yes, true.... but the server market is full of stiff competion. The enthusiast market is where the Raptor has had great success. There really isnt any competion for them there at all.

Let's be real. "Great success" in the DIY market means like .0001% of the server market. My original comment was in regards to Seagate wanting to compete in the server segment with raptor, if you still cant figure it out.
