Consumers take connectivity to the internet for granted today. In almost every part of the country people can access the internet on mobile devices and with broadband speeds in homes. While some rural areas lack high-speed connectivity, even the friendly skies are becoming wired for internet connectivity.
Aircell is one of the leading providers of in-flight Internet connectivity and boasts big names like American Airlines as its customers. Aircell's GoGo in-flight connectivity service is also used by Virgin America and other airlines as well.
Today Aircell adds a new airline to its growing list of internet-enabled airlines with the announcement that US Airways is now preparing to offer GoGo in-flight internet access. US Airways will have its GoGo service ready for use in early 2010 and will offer full internet access.
Passengers on its flights will be able to surf the Web, use instant messaging, email, and access corporate VPN networks. The airline will install the GoGo service initially on its A321 aircraft flying select domestic routes. US Airways says that customers will be able to see what planes offer Internet access starting later next year by looking for the Wi-Fi icon when booking.
Pricing for the in-flight service will range from $5.95 to $12.95 depending on the length of the flight and the type of device being used to access the service. It sounds as though the service may be cheaper on mobile phones that on notebooks or netbooks.
