Apple has sent emails to developers inviting them to try a new OS v3.1 SDK. The new OS update will add improved voice dialing, pasting phone numbers, better video editing, improved OpenGL, and faster boot times.  (Source: Apple)

The iPhone video editing app now won't save over your old file unless you want it to (at last!).  (Source: Apple)
Apple already is gearing up for a new OS update

It didn't take Apple long after the release of its iPhone OS v3.0 to begin preparing for the first major update to the new OS.  Apple has announced the availability of a beta of its OS v3.1 along with a 3.1 version SDK, for its developers.

IPhone OS v3.1 will improve video editing, one of the hot new features on the iPhone 3G S.  The 3G S allows users to edit videos by selecting or deselecting series of frames, however, the edits automatically overwrote the original.  Now the system prompts the user with the option to save a copy, when saving your editing work.

Arranging icons on the home screen also has had a cool vibration effect added.  Another little OS level tweak is the boot time -- the phone now boots considerably faster.

Another nice addition is the inclusion of paste into the dialing screen.  Users can now paste phone numbers into the dial box.  Alphanumeric numbers, such as 1-800-MY-APPLE, will be properly converted to phone numbers.

MMS functionality is supported in the beta, though it is still not supported on the network by AT&T.  The beta's final major addition is the ability to use Voice Control via a Bluetooth headset.

The SDK for the OS update includes APIs to add video editing to applications, opening the door for fancy third-party video editing suites.  The SDK also includes improved versions of the OpenGL and Quartz engines (Quartz is the Mac OS X graphics presentation engine).

There is no official word when the new OS update will be released to the public, but expect it to land within the next month.

You punks make me laugh, if you don't like it don't read about it and come here and whine. So what your crap phone has had voice command got years. I didn't upgrade my first gen iPhone yo a 32 gb 3gs for that. Jealousy gets you nowhere. Everyone I know and work around stools over my 3gs their phones don't even come close to mine no matter the network. It's not perfect no, I'm not a apple fanboy either. Bottom line is it's slick, ui is awesome, big screen, fast as any phone out there if nor better. I've got 10 movies on it that's not even out on video yet in DVD qaulity and all my music. So you just keep your small screen, flip phone garbage with features the iPhone is just now getting and crawl back into your holes and shut your trap if you don't know what your even talking about just like to hate on something you can't have or afford.

So instead you come here, and ram your sycophantic views down everyone else's throats?

Not entirely sure what you mean by 'I've got 10 movies on it that's not even out on video yet in DVD qaulity and all my music'. Are you saying you pirated them and that if I did this with my 'crap phone' I couldn't watch them in the same quality you could?

Ok, based purely on your ravings, I must go and buy an iPhone 3G S now. Oh wait, I have a brain, a finite amount of money and a life...

Well I have a brain, a less finite amount of money and a life and I bought an iphone 3GS to replace my year old White 3G and am using it with no problems. No overheating, signal's great, the compass is really useful when used with Maps. Nothing to complain about really, its still fun to use (considering that its primary function is a 'phone') and how often do you hear that when a techy buys a new phone? We get that you hate the iPhone and think that its users are stupid/living on credit/smug/non-technical etc. but actually since I started using the first iPhone back in the day, buying a new iPhone is the most no-brainer decision, its simply the best phone for me. Your mileage may vary, but don't belittle others for being happy with the their purchases (and most are happy).

Nearly everybody I know owns an iPhone 3G or 3GS nowadays (I family I know owns 4...), so I can only think that there is an element of jealousy here. Disregard his ravings btw, they don't represent all iPhone users.

I have a company iPhone 3G and my own iPhone 2G (but that's just been sold). I've just ordered the 3G S to replace the company's existing line-up as mid-term upgrades.

I was trying to reflect the fact that the vast majority of Apple users are complete tools, because you buck the trend doesn't deny this fact - but people like Soldier1234 (or whatever he's called) reinforce this. I've seen enough smug Apple users who preach about how amazing their overpriced Apple hardware is but I strangely never see them doing any real work on any of their hardware - and I've never had a reasonable answer to my question 'what can a Mac do that a PC can't', strange...
