Apple has sent emails to developers inviting them to try a new OS v3.1 SDK. The new OS update will add improved voice dialing, pasting phone numbers, better video editing, improved OpenGL, and faster boot times.  (Source: Apple)

Apple already is gearing up for a new OS update

It didn't take Apple long after the release of its iPhone OS v3.0 to begin preparing for the first major update to the new OS.  Apple has announced the availability of a beta of its OS v3.1 along with a 3.1 version SDK, for its developers.

IPhone OS v3.1 will improve video editing, one of the hot new features on the iPhone 3G S.  The 3G S allows users to edit videos by selecting or deselecting series of frames, however, the edits automatically overwrote the original.  Now the system prompts the user with the option to save a copy, when saving your editing work.

Arranging icons on the home screen also has had a cool vibration effect added.  Another little OS level tweak is the boot time -- the phone now boots considerably faster.

Another nice addition is the inclusion of paste into the dialing screen.  Users can now paste phone numbers into the dial box.  Alphanumeric numbers, such as 1-800-MY-APPLE, will be properly converted to phone numbers.

MMS functionality is supported in the beta, though it is still not supported on the network by AT&T.  The beta's final major addition is the ability to use Voice Control via a Bluetooth headset.

The SDK for the OS update includes APIs to add video editing to applications, opening the door for fancy third-party video editing suites.  The SDK also includes improved versions of the OpenGL and Quartz engines (Quartz is the Mac OS X graphics presentation engine).

There is no official word when the new OS update will be released to the public, but expect it to land within the next month.

or ability to capture video on their phone.... oh wait, they did on their 3rd gen, they're pushing the technology curve.

Oh... I like how it seems the "overheating" issue doesn't seem to be addressed.... Makes me laugh when a company tag line is, "it just works"... yeah it works, but the pretty white plastic yellows in a few days and looks nasty. And lets forget what such cooking temps do to a battery.

Oh well...who cares...they'll release the iPhone 3Gsx soon enough, and 90% of their followers will buy it setting new sales records..and profits.

Ugh... so sick of iPhone lunacy.

Oh...btw, I have a company issued iPhone 3G now for a the phone a lot...but often wish I could still be using my Blackberry Curve or a Bold...

My $.02 of rant...

What?? You mean I'll have to pay extra next year to get the new version? As a Loyal iPhone early adopter, I feel that I should get this next version for free.

My bad, I meant to paste this quote
Oh well...who cares...they'll release the iPhone 3Gsx soon enough, and 90% of their followers will buy it setting new sales records..and profits.

And then I went on to make fun of all the people who whined about how ATT and Apple was screwing them over because they're on a 2 year contract and have to pay extra for the 3GS.

I wish us mind numb, Apple sheep, followers that sink money into any new iphone Apple could be as discriminatingly brilliant as you.

Ugh... so sick of baseless stereotyping in a pathetic attempt to look "more" sophisticated.

I can record video on my first gen iPhone right now.
