Will Wright has finally left EA to focus on his own company, after thinking about the move for more than a year

Electronic Arts confirmed Will Wright, the man behind The Sims and Spore, is leaving EA to work at an entertainment studio he originally created in 2001.

Wright will be working full-time at Stupid Fun Club, a company designed to focus on new projects that could later be turned into video games, movies, toys, and other entertainment ventures -- EA also is serving as a sponsor of the company.

In 2001, the company was focused on robots, and drew a large amount of media attention because of Wright's involvement.

"The entertainment industry is moving rapidly into an era of revolutionary change.  Stupid Fan Club will explore new possibilities that are emerging from this sublime chaos and create new forms of entertainment on a variety of platforms," Wright said in a statement.  "In my twelve years at EA, I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside some of the brightest and most talented game developers in the industry and I look forward to working with them again in the near future.”

Wright began talking about leaving EA for Stupid Fun Club -- located in Berkeley, California -- last year, and will lead a team of nine employees.  Sim City -- and all of its expansion games -- has sold more than 100 million copies since the game's original launch in 1989.

Considering Wright's involvement has led to some of EA's biggest game titles, it should be interesting to see if this hurts the company's future projects.  The company is currently reorganizing after announcing it will lay off around 1,100 employees and will publish a smaller number of video games.

You most obviously have a grudge to pick with EA and it's partners.

To say SPORE and SIM is the only good IP's that EA puts out means you know nothing about the industry at all and just discredited your self in front of the internet. You also have just insulted the thousands of people who work very hard to make these games. How about you put something out on the market and see what everyone has to say about it? I am sure an obvious game expert like you must have much better ideas.

Thanks for coming out better luck next time.

Spoken like your opinion is fact. Personally I love all the EA sports games, I play them for hours upon hours. I don't like games like Spore and the Sims, does that make them bad games and all EA sports good games? I don't think so, its just my opinion.

At least a fanboi knows what he wants, you are just making to be a fool with a grudge.

Pathetic whiny morons

While that statement comes off with great irony. You do have a point.

Still, Will Wright, like SquareSoft and many of the other truly remarkable creative minds, has chosen to separate himself from EA. The reason for this is simple, EA cares more about money than they do creating great games. Great games sell themselves. And EA hasn't produced all that many. EA could stand to learn a few lessons from some other big names that focus on quality rather than quantity[and I'm NOT talking about Microsoft].

Personally I'd give Crysis, your "best FPS" a 7 out of 10.

Graphics 10 out of 10
Game Play 8 out of 10
Story 5 out of 10

Not in the same league as Far Cry 1, HL2, or COD. But just my opinion of course.

Crysis, the best FPS

I don't enter into a battle of wits with an un-armed person. And anyone who claims "Crysis" as the "best" FPS completely dis-qualifies themselves as an informed and lucid opinion. Maturity also seems to have missed you when dealing out shares.

You have absolutely NO idea how gaming industry works, my naive friend.

Love the irony... It just never ends here at DT!

And you ignored my argument about Call of Cthulhu because you know it's true. End of discussion then :)

I have never played that game, and thus can not render an opinion about it.

However, after having read more than a few reviews, I can safely conclude that it is not a game for everyone. You may think it is a great game, and for you it may be just that. But you are in a minority. Kinda like with me and "Children of Mana" for the NDS. I love the game and think it a wonderful addition to the Mana series. But I am in the minority. Most people don't agree. Do I care about anyone else's opinion? No and neither should you.

End of discussion then :)

Grow up.
