Acer Aspire One 10-inch netbook tested with normal 2200mAh battery

Netbooks are extremely popular right now and their popularity only continues to grow. Acer has the most popular netbook on the market with its 9-inch Aspire One. The machine is the top selling netbook right now and to keep that top spot, Acer is coming out with a new netbook with a larger screen.

The Acer Aspire One 10-inch offers a larger screen than the original that should be more popular than the original 9-inch version. When the first batch of 10-inch Aspire One's went out, Acer reported that a battery issue had been discovered. Unlike most battery issues which mean the system is either going to burst into flames or won’t run as long as promised, this battery error was in the user's favor.

The first batch of the new netbook to hit the market had a 6-cell battery inside the offered 5500 mAh, but what was supposed to have been used was a 6-cell battery with 4400 mAh. The larger battery was good for 7 hours and 57 minutes of runtime according to Laptop Magazine.

Laptop got a normal 4400 mAh battery and when tested it ran but a mere 4 hours and 24 minutes. Laptop points out that for only $50 more you can get the Eee 1000HE that will run for 7 hours.

True, with a higher capacity battery you are running at an even lower % of 1C rate, but the effect of this should be negligible over several hours runtime instead of an hour or less. In other words, yes life is pretty near linear because the laptop consumes same, battery ratings are deliberately comparative.

This is true unless there is another variable involved which would be the battery itself, it's internal construction. If it is the same sized cell, it would need be more porous to attain the higher capacity and thus performing more poorly at any give drain rate, but this factor would suggest the opposite of what was observed that the lower capacity battery would come even closer to parity/mAH.
