Jobs hopes to return in June

Steve Jobs Takes Leave of Absence from Apple

It appears that the extent of Steve Jobs' health problems were greater than what was previously released to the public. Earlier this month, Jobs released a statement to the Apple community detailing his battle a hormone imbalance which caused him to lose weight.

At the time, Jobs stated that he would step aside should he feel that he could no longer serve as Apple's CEO. It appears that the day is here as Steve Jobs announced in a letter to Apple employees that he leave his day-to-day workload to focus on his health. Tim Cook will step in to fill Jobs' large shoes in his absence. Here is Jobs' letter in its entirety:

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

We won't delve into conspiracy theories about Jobs' health or who knew what when, but the whole DailyTech team wishes him the best in his road to recovery. And when June rolls around, we will gladly welcome him back into the news circuit complete with his black turtleneck, jeans, and tennis shoes.

Seriously, just F*** off Pirks. Nobody listens to you. ALL your post get rated down. You insult everyone, are really smug, have a superiority complex, think you know more about computers (when in reality if you did, you wouldn't be using macs) and you're more immature than a average 12 year old kid.

You sum up every stereo type about apple users.

Sorry but that is utter BS. I work in IT as a SharePoint Developer and website developer/designer and I use a Macbook Pro as well as PC's, there's nothing inherently wrong with Macbooks, they are decent machines which are well built and designed. Even though I know I could technically get the same spec cheaper, the way the little things like the magnetic power cable, track pad, ports array, and keyboard (and obviously OSX when I'm not booted to Vista) have been designed make it worth it *in my opinion* not to mention the consistantly pleasing design in general.

To a certain crowd (i.e. not gamers or people who build their own) Macbooks are not appealing because you can't really tweak them. I would never have considered buying one in the past when I used to build PC's and overclock, but now my priorities have changed somewhat, and all my gaming is done on the consoles and I use pc's for productivity stuff like Photoshop/Maya/Visual Studio etc only. In this context, or for people who aren't gamers, Macbooks are a viable and compelling alternative.

The premium you pay over similarly specced laptops which aren't bargain bin tat or a netbook isn't as great as you might think...I've owned Lenovos and Dell's in the past and wouldn't go back unless Apple really mess up.

Trying to talk to braindead zombie named B3an? Don't waste your time, robinthakur. He's beyond repair, just like SavagePotato, it's obvious.
