For $179.99 according to IGN rumor

According to IGN, three independent sources have told them that the revamp of the DS Lite is coming on April 4 for $179.99 for the United States.

Over a million have been sold in Japan, where sales were flagging due to so many Japanese citizens already owning a DS or DS Lite.

Nintendo's DSi handheld console looks similar to previous DS versions, but has two built-in 0.3 megapixel cameras.

Other features include a SD Card slot that can enable AAC audio playback, 256MB internal memory, as well as downloadable DSi games through the DSi Shop.  The two screens are also slightly larger at 3.25 inches. Battery life is reportedly lower by 25%.

The front slot for Game Boy Advance cartridges has been removed, removing compatibility for GBA games as well as the Nintendo DS Rumble Pak and Guitar Hero: On Tour series which use the handheld grip for playing.

How does this make any sense at all? The DSi has marginal features that do not really appeal to its intended demographic.. and the ones that it would appeal to could spend an extra $20-$50 to get a more competent and fully featured handheld in either the PSP or iPod Touch. I mean, is it enough to really convince anyone who already has a DS to shell out even more than they did before for 0.3 megapixel camera, no GBA slot(add SD support only to take away other other game related compatibility..), and a lot less battery life?

As always, content is the thing that drives sales of (handheld) consoles. Price of the console itself is not as important to sales as does available content.
I expect Nintendo to come up with some killer apps/games for the two cams to generate sales and so commercially justify the higher price.

BTW, the battery life of the DSi is not less, it's 25% more than the DS.

Strike that remark. I misread the article.
