HP Firebird PC 803  (Source: Engadget)
HP's new Firebird gets leaked and looks pretty sweet

Voodoo was a long time player in the boutique gaming PC industry and when it was purchased by HP many gaming enthusiasts figured that Voodoo would be gelded. However, the gaming company continued making some interesting desktop and laptop gaming machines.

The first Voodoo and HP system to come from the purchase was called the HP Blackbird 002. It was an interesting rig with a price tag that was higher than most were willing to spend. Add the cost to the fact that you could build the rig for much less than HP and Voodoo were asking for it and the machine was scorned by many gamers and computer enthusiasts.

Engadget has posted up some details on the next Voodoo DNA infused computer to come out of HP. The machine is called the HP Firebird PC 803 and looks like a much larger version of the Eee Box to my eyes. To save space most of the internal components are turned on their side, making for a chassis that is thinner on the front than typical computers.

Crammed inside the attractive case is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83 GHz CPU, NVIDIA nForce 760i SLI chipset, 4GB of RAM, dual NVIDIA 9800S video cards, Wi-Fi, and dual 320GB HDDs. A Blu-ray player is also integrated to make the machine a capable HTPC as well.

One interesting feature of the Firebird is that it uses an external power supply to allow for the thin form factor. That also helps reduce the heat produced inside the chassis. Perhaps the most important specification of the system is still unknown -- the price. Anything with Voodoo's name on it isn’t cheap, so don’t expect a bargain, but it should be considerably cheaper than the Blackbird 002.

that is an EPIC waste of money. it's your money and your call. you give me 5g's, and i will build a computer that is faster than what your are buying there. let me show u a few areas that are obsolete

1. AMD 9950 BE? i would go with an i7 940, OC it, and it will smoke the 9950.

2. 8GB ddr2 800mhz? i'll go with either 6 or 12gbs of DDR3 ram.

3. Logitech G9 - epic waste of money. this is an uncomfortable mouse to use and no one is ever going to use it's max. DPI. a G5 is a much better deal/experience to use.

4.why are you running raid 0-1? if you want speed, might as well get an SSD drive as your main drive for OS/programs and a 1tb drive for storage.

5. creative labs fatality headset - waste of money. they use fatality's name to slap on a heavier $$$$$$ tag, which you have.

6. Logitech Z-5500. great sound system, i have it. but they are probably overcharging you for it when you can buy it for around 175-200$ at other retailers yourself.

7. and finally you don't need a 4870x2 x2. there are only a few games out there that can't be run well with very high settings at your reso. ie. crysis/GTA IV.

and best of all, if you even buy this computer, it'll be outdated within 6 months or so. ATI's HD 58xx series is coming out next year, so i rather be looking forward to that.
