WoW reaches another subscriber milestone

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that its hugely successful World of Warcraft MMORPG title has surpassed another historic milestone for subscribers. The new high was reached shortly after the launch of the second expansion pack for WoW called Wrath of the Lich King.

WoW now counts 11.5 million subscribers worldwide. DailyTech reported in late October that WoW had reached the 11 million subscriber mark. The huge success of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack boosted the subscribers to the game by half a million in slightly more than a month.

Wrath of the Lich King set an all time 24 hour sales record for PC video games, besting the previous top selling PC title for the same time period -- the first WoW expansion pack. Blizzard says the expansion pack has now sold over 4 million copies after moving 2.8 million the first 24-hours it was available.

CEO and cofounder of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime said in a statement, "We’re pleased to welcome the new and returning players who have helped World of Warcraft reach these new milestones, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and support that the game’s global community has continued to show. We look forward to providing all of them with an excellent entertainment experience for a long time to come."

I guess for me it's about the money, lol, just kidding. I tried WOW and was not impressed with it at all. The quest are somewhat stupid, and the game play is very slow at times. I do not like the idea of having to level up a character while having to pay $15 to play this online. I see it like this, if I have to pay to play then I should get the max of everything from the start of my character. At 11.5 million people playing each month, paying an average of $14 a month, you do the math at how much these people are ripping you off. The burning crusade cost $40 when it came out and the newest expansion cost the same, do the math on that. I can tell you this much, it does not cost Blizzard tens of millions of dollars to keep up the servers they do for WOW. The game has zero social interaction, imo, none whatsoever. I have friends who play WOW and I never hear from them and they never call. When I try to get in touch with them I get the same response, "thier play WOW, and will call you back". guess what, that call very seldom gets returned. I just do not understand the effect of WOW in domoinating a persons life, thats the really stupid part about the whole thing.

Look at it this way, 11.5 million is also a good sign for new competition. Better games, competitive prices, more functionality and so fourth. If the consumer is welling to pay for it, then they're going to keep making it.

Now if only COD4 would be updated with new maps. The modded maps make no logical sense. They de-list the server on normal search so basically you're stuck playing with maybe 1-2 other people.
