HP will reportedly launch a touchscreen notebook this year and a netbook

HP introduced its desktop touchscreen computer called the TouchSmart last year and showed the systems off heavily at CES in 2007. The Wall Street Journal reports that HP is now looking to release a wide variety of touchscreen devices to address a market that it feels isn’t being properly addressed.

The Wall Street Journal cites sources close to HP that claim the world's top PC company will be shipping a touchscreen notebook before the end of the year, that isn't a tablet. Details on the notebook are scarce, but what we do know is that the machine will have a touchscreen and HP software to support the touchscreen. Likely, the system will be a pared down portable version of HP's existing TouchSmart computer.

Sources also tell The Wall Street Journal that HP is going to be bringing a complete line of touchscreen phones to market with sales of the mobile phones expected to begin in Europe this year and in the U.S. within a year or so.

HP is also said to be readying a new netbook with a 10-inch screen for this year. HP’s smallest current offering is the Mini-Note with an 8.9” display and an underperforming VIA C7-M processor. Netbooks have been singled out as the strong point in soft PC sales globally. The netbook won’t be one of the touchscreen devices says The Wall Street Journal.

HP didn’t comment on the products, and simply stated that it would be bringing a whole line of touchscreen devices to market at a future date.

Until they solve the fingerprint problem, touchscreens will never become more popular than mice.

Yeah that's my issue. You'd have to clean your monitor daily.

That's not an issue cause I don't touch the screen after picking my nose. I put my finger in my mouth and suck the snot off first.
I get any gag reflexes?

For single-contact, styluses work fine, but I'm pretty sure HP's software can detect multiple finger "gestures" similar the iPhone.

The screen protection film I use on my iphone has a matte finish. That means that the surface is not smooth but rough on a microscopic level. This completely eliminates finger prints and makes it much easier to slide a finger over the surface regardless of how sticky your finger may be.

The only downside is that the microscopically rough surface adds a small amount of light scattering which makes the picture just slightly grainy/noisy.
