Voodoo PC will hang on as a brand name only

Nearly two years ago in September 2006, HP announced that it purchased gaming PC maker Voodoo for an undisclosed amount of money. Originally, Voodoo remained a separate entity from HP and continued to focus on creating gaming machines for high-end gaming customers.

Today HP announced that it is folding the Voodoo brand into its HP line. HP says that it will maintain Voodoo as a brand name. That statement frightens some Voodoo enthusiasts who fear that the Voodoo name will be just that -- a name slapped onto anything HP wants to market for more money to the gaming crowd.

PC World quotes HP spokeswoman Ann Finnie saying, “It is just the next step of integration into the business units that deliver Compaq Presario and [HP] Pavilion.” The good part about the folding of Voodoo completely into HP is that the gaming systems would be easier to get at retail locations and with the significantly larger staff of HP systems would be faster to build and deliver.

Voodoo’s Rahul Sood said in a blog post, “Ultimately it means that Voodoo and Voodoo-influenced products will be easier to buy, faster to get, they will feature local service, and they will have the full power of HP’s marketing and sales channel behind them. The bottom line is we have ignited the brand and sparked big excitement; so we are now integrating our organizations to fuel our growth.”

Finnie told PC World, “Don't expect customers to see a difference.” Existing customer support and service won’t change either. How this move will affect pricing of Voodoo computers remains to be seen.

Not really. Voodoo PCs, while pretty, were outrageously overpriced. Almost more so than Alienware.

Alienware was cheap compared to Falcon Northwest
and Falcon Northwests were chump change compared to Voodoo. Seriously did Voodoo even sell desktop systems for under $5K?

exactly. Alienware really hasn't been an expensive brand since they got merged with Dell. Following what happened there, voodoo's prices are sure to drop after this merge completes. Then only hypersonic and falcon northwest will be left charging way too much for a PC.

Secretly however, I do love voodoo's work on both their laptops and desktops.. it's just a shame they charge so much.

I don't know about recently but 5-6 years back you could get a computer thru them for as low as $1500.

Haha. That thing was a beast. The damn thing required its own power supply but could churn out more frames in Quake III then even Fatal1ty knew what to do with!

That's the understatement of the year. Weren't they selling a $20,000 gaming PC with a gold plated case at one point? You'd have to have a really small e-penis to buy that thing. lol

You really are an idiot if you spend more than $2000 for a gaming desktop.

Having never had the desire or resources to purchase an overpriced "enthusiast" PC, I speak for myself when I say.. "Meh".

It was inevitable. The writing has been on the wall for a long while.
