Are you ready for the new law going into effect on July 1?

Three more days.  That's the number of days left before drivers in California will be forced to go hands-free while using a cell phone in the car, even if they aren't necessarily ready for the new law to go into effect.

Will the law make the roads safer?  Are drivers ready?  Do people even care?

If you're a Californian who is going to roll the dice and keep chatting on a phone without using a Bluetooth headset or speaker phone, the first offense will be $100.  If you keep on going, the fines can reach $190 for a second offense, with the fine continuing to increase with each additional violation.

But if you do end up getting a ticket come next week, Headsets.com will be giving away 730 free Discovery 925 Bluetooth headsets for drivers who get busted.  A law firm in the Bay Area island town of Alameda will hand out 2,000 Bluetooth headsets to Bay Area residents even if they don't get a ticket.

The law does allow users with Sprint Nextel push-to-talk to continue using the push-to-talk feature without using Bluetooth technology.  If you're content with simply using your phone's speaker phone, you'll also be allowed to do that.

In case you're wondering, it's still going to be legal to send text messages while driving -- for now.  California Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto), who authored the current hands-free law, recently wrote a new bill that will ban text messaging while driving.

If you're using a Bluetooth headset, please familiarize yourself with it before getting into the car and learning how to use your new gadget while driving.

Does using a Bluetooth headset actually make driving safer?  The jury is still out on this one, but either way, we still have to deal with it.  Researcher done at the University of Utah indicate drivers using a cell phone are 5.36 times more likely to get into a traffic accident, which roughly is on the same level of danger as driving with a .08 blood-alcohol level.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger believes the new law will help keep drivers safer, but researchers indicate it's more about a driver's attention and processing capacity instead of whether or not they're holding a cell phone.

A public survey done by Parrot indicates 63 percent of people who drive at least one hour per day talk on the cell phone for non-urgent matters.

Remember folks, the law officially goes into effect on Tuesday, July 1!

Not once in my entire life, every time I've been on the road as a driver or a passenger in my 28 year old existence have I ever seen someone run a red light and cause an accident or a car crash.

Yet, there are these expensive multi-camera triangular boxes that sit in Los Angeles that keep an eye on ALL traffic and I see them flash at least once every two days and I only drive about 20 miles in two days, MAXIMUM. Are these keeping us safer? I dont think so. Los Angeles reports that after 9 months those new "safety" cameras have made them over $3 MILLION DOLLARS in fines.

Do I feel safer? No.

Now for the Cell Phone headset law. I heard about this YEARS ago. It was considered and implemented in other states. Now its a reality and its a nightmare. I OWN A BLUETOOTH headset and a wired headset. It is difficult for me to use either. Why? The battery is either dead or dying despite the 6 hour talk time (because there is no battery indicator, just a low-batt beep 5 minutes before it shuts off). And the wired headset? Thats flimsy and snags on everything including the seatbelt and is easily broken.

Now lets look at the facts. Most laws in the united states are passed without ANY input of the common person. Even if 90% of people oppose such a law? Its pushed through and we slaves & cowards do nothing about it.

65% of our income goes STRAIGHT to taxes and pays for things we will never see, much less use. Soon it will be 80% of our income - 80% of our working LIVES will go straight to government. And why do we tolerate it? Why do YOU? Have you ever raised your voice in protest? I have! Now they have deflated our dollar and thats WHY GAS IS SO HIGH! Its not expensive! The American dollar is weak! Blame the government! Blame traitors like Allan Greenspan, Pres. Bush, Chaney, etc etc.

Now lets look at some new, upcoming, fancy, marvelous laws to keep us happy: BREATH ANALYZERS IN EVERY NEW CAR BY 2012 (Do a google search!) GUILTY OF A DUI OR NOT (CLEAN DRIVING RECORD) you will have to blow into a breath analyzer every single time you start your car.

You LIKE that, huh? You think that'll keep you safe? How about a GPS unit in your car that taxes you a few dollars PER MILE you drive! They'll take off that $0.75 of tax per gallon at the pump then increase it 20 fold and charge you by the mile to drive your car! Do you own an SUV or a large truck? Well well well!!! We're gonna have to charge you EXTRA to drive that! Why? Because it tears up the pavement and you're hurting mother earth and causing green house gases (MAN MADE global warming: Another fraud, to implement Carbon Tax on EVERYONE and EVERYTHING further taxing us to death)!

Like where we are headed? No? Why dont you talk to me and lets organize and further organize and unite others to stop this madness from happening.

x Justin
