Who didn't see this coming?

Just to prove that the Apple iPod is a product that everyone wants to get their hands on, it looks like the popular music player is now being sold in some vending machines.  This particular vending machine that provides consumers with iPods was found in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, GA.  After a person puts in a credit card, a Video iPod, Shuffle, Nano, or a variety of accessories are available, according to the blog.

Although it is arguable whether or not this particular vending machine will sell a lot of iPods for Apple, it will certainly garner lots of attention.  iPod vending machines have been in Macy's for approximately three months, but now that they are starting to crop up in airports and grocery stores, the iPod really has started to get its stride.

They should add a bit of both I think or even offers, you know, like "Get a Snickers for free by purchasing an apple nano..." etc

I'd prefer something like "get a ipod for free by buying applejuice".

how useful is this in an airport?

so I buy an ipod while waiting for my plane to help pass the time... and I have no music on it.

Indeed. I think I first saw this in Atlanta in 2004, but it might have been there even earlier.

Today I was trying to get a payday bar out of the vending machine and it got stuck between the glass and the dispenser. That would suck to have happen with an ipod.

lol. I think those warning pictures of someone being crushed would come to pass if that happened. Ever get a two items instead of one?

George Costanza

For some reason, all I can think of is George trying to get his Twix out of the vending machine at the car dealership.

:)

Music Vending Machine

What they need is a couple Music vending machines right next to the iPod vending machine. Nothing fancy, just a terminal with an iPod dock that connects to the iTunes Music Store. Give it a simplified touch screen interface and have it display the top 50 to 100 Albums from each genre or category in the IMS database. No need to have an IMS account, when the customer checks out the machine just prompts for a credit card, at which point the customer would swipe it. Or they can enter the number off of the back of an IMS prepaid card if they are a kid or just don't feel like using credit. This would probably do better than the iPod vending machines themselves, how many people travel with an iPod and want to load some new music on it?

Even if they have music, how can you charge the battery?

What if it jams
By GoatMonkey on 3/9/2006 8:10:07 AM , Rating: 2
It would really suck if it got jammed after you put in your $400 for an iPod. The next person to buy one is *REALLY* lucky though.

lots of buble wrap

i sure hope that the ipod has good packaging... think about ordering your new ipod video from the top of the machine, only to watch it plummet to the bottom... i guess that's the thrill that vending machine addicts live for huh?

So when it gets stuck...
By aguilpa1 on 3/9/2006 3:26:19 PM , Rating: 2
can you tilt it and maybe get like two video pods and a nano fall out???

eh

They don't plumment from the top.. the machine actually delivers it down gently. That's how it is around here anyways.
