New traffic cams in the UK make Dracula proud

Most drivers in larger cities where carpool lanes are common have seen the lone driver cruising in the HOV lane oblivious to the rules. Sometimes these lane raiders get caught, but more often than not they get away with going solo in the HOV lane.

Some people try all sorts of trickery to get away with using the HOV lane with only one person in the car from putting photographs on the windshield to fool traffic cameras to using mannequins or blow up dolls. A new camera system is being installed in the UK that can tell how many people are in the car by detecting the amount of blood and bodily fluids are present with the expectation of thwarting these types of offenses.

The new CCTV system will first be used in Leeds, but could eventually find its way across the UK. The cameras work by shooting an infrared beam through the windshield of a car that is able to detect the blood and other fluids inside people in the car.

Similar technology has been used in the hospital setting for years called pulse oximetery which uses an infrared beam to detect how much oxygen is dissolved in the blood. If these cameras work on a similar principal to detect blood is unknown.

Professor John Tyrer headed the Loughborough University team that created the device told Daily Mail, “It [the cameras] allows you to count people.” UK motoring organizations say that the cameras are yet another intrusion on the private lives of motorists.

Whether or not CCTV cameras actually help reduce crime in the UK is a topic of debate. DailyTech reported a study in 2007 that showed the CCTV cameras in use in the UK did not reduce crime.

The only herding that the UK government are doing is herding degree educated 20-30 year olds out and cheap immigrant labour in.

The people that are able to emigrate and get jobs in other countries, notably degree educated 20 somethings, are leaving the UK in record numbers

Only those who are trapped in the UK benefits system and are unwanted by other countries are powerless to do anything as they are essentially owned by the government.

Of course, this doesn't come cheap so the UK government has to come up with all sorts of taxes, fines and charges to cover it's overheads.

We have somehow been convinced that governments and those in power are now lovely nice people who want power only to make everyone else's lives easier, contrary to what any history book will tell you.

I think you can measure how well a country is doing by how its primary services are treated.

Currently, it seems the UK is doing extremely poorly with regards to its police - they lack government support and funding, they dont have the authority or equipment to do their jobs. Compare them to police elsewhere in the world, such as the US, and you will see why crime is so much higher here.

I think a large problem is that those in government just dont have a clue what life is like at the bottom. They never have to use public transport - they dont know how overcrowded it is. They think they are helping the masses with the benefits system, but in reality, they are only perpetuating poverty by encouraging people to rely on the state. The UK government is so concerned with being politically correct that they forgot they have a country to run. Ken Livingstone goes on about congestion and the evils of driving and how people with gas guzzlers are rich enough to afford the C charge - but I dont see him using public transport. His C charge is nothing but a tax - where is the money going? Is it going to an environmental cause? Of course not! its going to the pension funds.

Its not that the environment is unimportant compared to the welfare of the state - it is definitely important. But its being used as a scapegoat to raise taxes while offering everyone nothing in return, and while the government cuts the police budget all the time, and gives the youth all the liberty they want, thereby ensuring they will end up being a disgrace to the country at best, and a career criminal at worst. Its a crueler punishment than any form of discipline.

You are certainly welcome here in America. There are still a few freedom lovers here.
