Microsoft is now Danger's middle name

Microsoft dug deep into its pocketbook recently with the offer to buy Yahoo for the large sum of $46 billion -- that offer was rejected. Microsoft, however, announced a purchase today that was much easier to finance.

Microsoft says that it agreed to purchase Danger Inc., the company best known for the Sidekick mobile device. Microsoft president of Entertainment and Devices Division Robbie Bach said in a statement, “Microsoft is a global leader with our Windows Mobile software and expanding mobile services. The addition of Danger serves as a perfect complement to our existing software and services, and also strengthens our dedication to improving mobile experiences centered on individuals and what they like.”

Microsoft says that Danger Inc. has connected with a young and enthusiastic customer base that is Internet-savvy and socially inclined. The purchase is expected to add additional assets and resources to Microsoft’s entry into the consumer space.

Danger Inc. chairman and CEO Henry R. Nothhaft said, “Danger continues to provide an effortless and fun mobile experience for consumers. Now by combining our uncompromised application software and powerful back-end service with Microsoft, we can expand our innovative service offerings even further and take mobility to a new level.”

The terms of the Microsoft purchase are unknown at this time. It doesn’t take any insider information to know after the purchase of Danger, a Sidekick running Windows Mobile will be just around the corner.

It tries to copy the silver trim from the iphone but distorts the lines to a awkward to hold shape, plenty of ports, grooves and joins to collect dirt and dust in and looks sort of tacky.

Are you serious? A new phone is released that has a face dominated by a screen, and automatically it looks like an iPhone? This thing is 10X sexier than the iPhone, prototype or not.

I do wish the phone had more than just the Windows Mobile platform, hopefully we will see some open source alternatives soon!

I agree, I must say, the iPhone/iPod touch are awesome, but I'm not a fan of Apple products (or their prices) in general and I hate iTunes. This would be a great alternative it looks like.

HA! You guys are dreaming... Is that huge reference device even a phone? Anyways, although I give props to nVidia for that impressive chip, as long as any phone based upon it runs Windows mobile, then nothing will change.

Although the iPhone and iPod Touch are beautiful, sleek devices, their real strength lies in the amazingly intuitive interface. I do however, have high hopes for a capacitive- touchscreen Android phone..

That is a beauty. Now make one without the screen and put in a hard drive and remote control and will be toast.

You could also just add a USB 2.5 external hard drive and have the remote control support built into the device at the link.

What a sexy device! Thank you for the link!

Now the DIY projector wannabe in me is asking this: is that an LCD screen, what size is it, and could I use it in a DIY projector setup? If yes to all of the above, I could imagine myself making multiple purchases. If only there's a 1080P version....

I had a for about a week and decided to build a HTPC instead. Dont get me wrong the Popcorn hour is an excellent device. But my previous PC being nearly worth nothing to e-bay it in parts I decided to add a $40.00 Radeon HD 2600pro to it and poof it can do the same as the popcorn hour. Throw in a HDTV tuner card and it can now do things the popcorn cant. Plus PC upscaling pwns any dvd player.

I'm going to write a web interface and use my outdated iPaq CE device as a Wifi remote.

I need that...

And it kind of looks like what I'd imagine the PSP2 would look like. Sony and NVidia are close business partners, maybe this awesome smartphone wonder chip will make its way to a future portable gaming device.

Yes, but will it blend?
