Facebook takes Dr. Phil's recommendation and gets cozy with Match.com

Match.com is working hard to connect its network of over 15 million users with social networking giant Facebook.com, which boasts 58 million active users.  Facebook is looking to put one foot in front of the other, and avoid mistakes after alienating its users by installing adware on their computers and posting their purchases online.

Fortunately, Facebook's approach with Match.com seems less nosy and more cozy.  Match.com with Facebook's help will implement a feature called "Little Black Book", which links Facebook profiles to Match.com daters.  Both companies are working to make this service unobtrusive, but helpful.  Users must sign up for the service.  After signing up, the service allows them to search profiles of Facebook users and non-Facebook users who want to date someone.  It will also send daily profiles to the user. 

Another feature being implemented is called "Match My Friends".  This feature allows a Match.com Facebook user's friends and family to create a profile of the person, to help let other prospective dates know more about them.  The feature is only usable if the Facebook user who the profile is about gives consent.

Always an online dating industry stalwart, Match.com has received many glowing recommendations and is even endorsed by Dr. Phil, of talk show infamy.   The web firm is Dallas based and is part of Barry Diller's New York based InterActiveCorp conglomerate, which also owns Evite, Ask.com and Citysearch.

The company hopes that its partnership with the fast growing Facebook will help its business reach even more users. 

Match.com general manager Craig Wax thinks that the move will help push users to test the online dating waters, stating, "There are a lot of people out there who are interested in online dating and just need that extra push, if you will."

The partnership between Match.com and Facebook is perhaps the most significant move for the the social network since its recent establishment of a partnership with Microsoft.  Facebook continues to have some hiccups, but continues to show exemplary growth and move along in its goal of social network domination.

This doesn't add much to the topic at hand, but having used a couple of the dating sites (E-Harmony and Plentyoffish), I'd say most of the people are using these sites for a reason.

Many times the people are either unattractive (to me at least),socially inept, or are flat out psychotic.

Now obviously there are going to be some nice, attractive, people on the site, but I've never met one.

Online dating removes the "in-person" aspect of first contact and I really think that is the most important part. You've got that one instant to look someone up and down, and get a feel for the vibe they put off. Those first few seconds are huge and just don't exist in online dating.
