Android-heavy Verizon is about to get a new, fruitier member of the family

"Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!" It looks as though things are finally falling into place for the iPhone 4 launch on Verizon's wireless network. A number of new reports are coming in from around the web, with one of the more humorous ones being from Gizmodo.

Gizmodo reports that it has been invited to nearly every Verizon event for the past three years and has a very close relationship with Verizon. However, Gizmodo hasn't been invited for Verizon's big January 11 announcement.

Now why wouldn't Gizmodo be invited to a Verizon press conference? Well, if you remember the "early" reveal of the iPhone 4, you'd know that Steve Jobs was quite livid with Gizmodo for going public with the iPhone 4 prototype -- and Gizmodo hasn't been invited back to an Apple-sponsored event since. With Apple's iPhone being the supposed focus of this event, there's no question that Steve Jobs gave Gizmodo the stink eye.

Gizmodo also notes that other pro-centric bloggers who wouldn't otherwise be invited to a Verizon press event also got invites.

Additional confirmation, this time from a more traditional outlet, came from the Wall Street Journal. The publication says that its sources confirm that the iPhone 4 will be revealed at the Tuesday press conference.

And if that wasn't enough, John Paczkowski of Digital Daily says that none other than Steve Jobs himself will grace the stage during the announcement. We're sure he'll be in his usual black mock turtleneck, jeans, and tennis shoes.

Verizon iPhone

Yeah; I agree a CDMA Verizon version of the iPhone will be interesting, but not for the reason many are pointing out, at least to me. Verizon is and has been for a couple of years now been Droid territory mainly.

The biggest part of this is users wanting a smart phone had to go this route at least until recently when the W7 unit hit. For that reason I would say smart phone users have had to learn more about a communication device of this type in general.

An iPhone while it has been a market leader has largely been this way for two reasons. The first it is attractive, and well publicized by Apple. The second it is easy to use, but because of this limited in many ways. The general Droid user therefore has to be more knowledgeable of the equipment than an iPhone user. An iPhone user at least for a decent amount of reason for buying it is it is cool, and or considered so.

The Android user was more concerned with actual functionality. For that reason I would say the Verizon crowd of consumers who bought for function over form differs greatly for these reasons from a typical iPhone user. I am not picking favorites here, although I think Apple is going down much the same path as the computer strategy.

For these reasons I think it will be interesting to see where the iPhone market goes when/if it finally comes to Verizon. I think in many ways it will show deficiencies to the market that were unseen before. The iPhone and Apple either way have a large market presence, even though it has been loosing to Android for about half a year now in sales percentage.

I think much like before in Apple history the iPhone will loose because it is so proprietary. With that being said this market is in a different place for a general user. Not to mention Apple has more seats at the fire with the other market capitalization steps they have taken.

I will add I do not hate Apple in any ways, and do give them major props for what hey have done throughout history. The major thing here is individuals like to make there own decisions, and not to be limited. Which in the PC market at least was the reason they lost, considerably more choices at price points versus design is a hard battle to fight in the end.

Like it or not the iPhone is phenomena and a household name for many that's been available only on the AT&T network. For the first time its going to on what many consider to be the largest network in the U.S., Verizon.

Oh yea of little techie comprehension, yet on a techie site take your cynical bitterness elsewhere.
