So what is Steve Jobs going to say?

Not expecting free bumpers...
By plewis00 on 7/15/2010 5:48:09 AM , Rating: 3
I'm really not expecting free bumpers - they charge $29.99 for these, giving them free would cut a gigantic amount off their profits, and they'd be giving them to people who may not even think they have a problem but would like a free case.

Apple may still shock us, that whole thing with the $100 back on the original iPhone was surprisingly gracious of them.

More than likely I'm expecting a 'free' software update which will 'fix' these issues 'a small number of our userbase' are experiencing - and that's not all bad, because the sooner that's out, the sooner we get a jailbreak too.

Remember though that the bumpers cost Apple maybe 50 cents.

Would be a lot cheaper than a recall.

My guess is they will deny all and just hope it all blows over. Folks will still buy the phone for some reason.

Business as usual.

I'm well aware that they cost them 50 cents to make maybe, but the opportunity cost of them not selling them at $29.99 each means they effectively lost that for each one they would've sold but wouldn't if they give them away free.

And people like me who weren't going to buy them, are definitely going to take a free one if offered.

Oh you are quite correct.

However, had they built the device right (and they would have assumed so) then the bumpers wouldnt have factored into their profit equation much in the first place.

Anyway let's sit back with the popcorn and see what transpires.

I agree, I'm going to sit back and wait but I think the best that will come out of this is a new software update which brings us a step closer to a jailbreak (you can see I'm quite keen on that!).

Ahhh well a new case it is then!

I dont think we've heard the last of this screw up.

This will keep going.

Lots of nearly new iPhone4s on Ebay.

With a case of course.

Or maybe they'll just say that this issue will be fixed in the next one, so buy this one for now and buy the next one when it comes out...

That will be next years phone. It will be named the iPhone4R. The R stands for RECEPTION!

Did you see what I did there? With the letter and the word and stuff?

No, no, no.
Apple will release a new iPhone4 exclusive accessory: a stylish young man/woman to hold your iPhone for you the right way while you go about your daily life.
Available in multiple colours and includes handsfree operation for your iPhone.

I still say it's those dang body theatons.

Perhaps they will give everyone a free e-meter reading in case anyone needs any extra help with their reception problem.

I bet there's an App for that...

My guess

They'll acknowledge issue, explain it wasn't caught during testing because of the incorrect bars display that will get a software fix.

New models will ship with a plastic or powder coating on the trouble spot. A retrofit piece of "tape" will be shipped to those that want them.

Remember, Steve Jobs used to live on a bag of rice back when he was at Reed College, and walked around in sandals. Surely he is into health and knows about germs.

Apple will issue a free glove, either for the left or right hand (a matching glove for the other hand will be $29.95). The glove will be white, naturally.

The glove will officially be for germ reduction, though it will also happen to improve antenna function. One option Apple is considering is placing a pocket on the back of the glove so that the phone is always literally right at one's fingertips.

It will be called the iGlove (duh) and Apple will point out that the late Michael Jackson would surely have been the iGlove's biggest promoter if not for his untimely demise.

This all could have been avoided if nature would not have robbed us of a prehensile tail! I blame Darwin for these reception problems.

A recall I would expect

Apple should do a recall and then charge $99 handling fee for the recall as well as charging $30 for a bumper as part of the "fix."

...even on the front page of the Independant newspaper in the UK.

Essentially a "where did it all go wrong for Apple" type thing.
