Hulu

Depends if Hulu blocks Android phones. If I can watch Hulu anywhere I go, Flash support is going to be huge. Unfortunately, given that they've already locked out Skyfire (free browser which detects and plays flash videos on Android phones) I don't think that's very likely.

Otherwise I'll take a performance and battery boost running apps through the JIT compiler. My SNES and Gameboy Advanced emulators currently eat my battery like it's nothing, keep the performance the same and reduce the battery drain by half and I'd be very happy.

I think it's already been noted that Hulu's blocked. You can pretty much expect Hulu to block anything that's not a PC at this point. I'm guessing mobile apps will be part of the upcoming Hulu subscription model.
In the meantime, can the user agent be spoofed in Android so Hulu can be used?

Yes, the browser tells the website what platform/version/codebase/resolution/etc it is, so it can easily be spoofed.

My only concern is that you would have to report a PC graphic resolution (say 800x600), and this might cause playback issues on smaller screens. The browser could handle this if properly coded though, and do the conversion to fit your mobile device's screen

Well, most of the new Android devices DO have 8xx by 4xx resolution screens so it won't be such a big problems especially if Flash "fullscreen" will be implemented properly (scaling to native rez while keeping original AR.)

OTOH I don't see Hulu as being such a big thing: aside it's US-only who wants to watch things on a mincy 4" screen more often than occasionally (like stuck on the train etc)?

compiler

Does the new compiler supposedly speed up OS operation? For example, would it make a slightly older processor run like a snapdragon? better resource handling?

They are talking about the VM byte code compiler which runs on top of the operating system I'm guessing (since I don't know the entire Android architecture stack) and would most likely only affect user-space application performance. It would do nothing for resource handling either.

Dalvik is basically the same thing as the Sun/Oracle JVM except that it's register-based I believe, but in essence if you update your Java VM in Windows it doesn't make your OS run faster :) so neither will this for Android.

Thank you for bringing my expectations for this update back into the realm of reality.

Glad to see the progress

I don't have an Android myself, but a friend of mine is looking at getting one. He wants a lot of the features that the n900 has, but something slimmer and that will seamlessly integrate with Google docs.

With this update, most of the features that the Android platform was missing (from my usage point of view) will be available.

This Poll is actually irrelevant in that I am actually really looking forward to everything in Froyo period. They have done a lot with this update across the board. There are great features even beyond what is included in the poll as well. I am really interested though in what the providers are going to allow. I am also interested in how fast items or features not allowed such as tethering and hotspot will be cracked by someone annd made available against there will. That will actually be funny!
