Europe's largest mobile phone carrier, Vodafone, has made three large deals to help increase revenue
Vodafone has announced a new service that will allow users to view and upload content to YouTube, the popular online video sharing web site. As part of the service for Vodafone users, a daily selection of recently uploaded videos will also be available. "Partnering with Vodafone will accelerate those efforts to serve our loyal YouTube users as well as allow new mobile audiences to enjoy YouTube," said Steve Chen, YouTube Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer. The service will initially be available to Vodafone UK users only, but will be enabled in other countries soon.
YouTube on Vodafone will be accessible through the Vodafone Live Web portal, a service on almost 5 million mobile phones in the United Kingdom. Pricing for the service has not been disclosed.
Vodafone previously reached agreements with MySpace and Ebay, in a move to help Europe's largest mobile carrier to help increase revenue.
A large number of mobile phone carriers are looking to bring Internet-related services to cell phones to help create new ways to boost revenue streams. For example, CBS is offering television show clips, ring tones and other content designed specifically for mobile phones. Research Informa Plc said that the growing market for mobile content could be worth as much as $150 billion in 2011 compared to a mere $89 billion last year.
"I'm an Internet expert too. It's all right to wire the industrial zone only, but there are many problems if other regions of the North are wired." -- North Korean Supreme Commander Kim Jong-il
